Toyota 2GR-FE oil grades in Australia 5W-30 to 20W-50

Yes I know that Mr Newton, keep your shirt on. Regarding something about specifications: The Owners Manual is an overarching or 'Master' Specification. The API and SAE are referenced specifications. This is how it's done, specifications within specifications. Quite a novel concept I'm sure. A...

Toyota 2GR-FE oil grades in Australia 5W-30 to 20W-50

So I was checking coolant capacity and I came across the Factory owners manual fluid specs here: https://www.toyota-club.net/files/techdata/ttx/aurion_40.htm Just thought I would post for interest as I've seen that NA market gets thinner oils specified than the rest of the world. This is a good...

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

I have always ran my 2008 2GR-FE on 10W40. I even used to drop it off at the dealer and supply my own oil. They would happily use it. This car was specced for 0W20, must have been one of the first. I swapped from the 0W20 because it ran a little strange, going down a multi story carpark exit...

Oil rec Mini Cooper JCW / N18 engine

Castrol 0W40 is PAO based while 5W40 is group III, while both are perfectly fine for you, may as well get the better PAO base oil. Penzoil Euro 5W40 is GTL based. Both are excellent. Just get the 40 weight oils, they are barely a 40 and will shear down into a 30 anyway. Just buy the cheaper...

    Brake fluid refresh?

Just get a mightyvac or similar. I prefer the ones which pressurise the master. Then just go around and crack each bleeder until fresh fluid flows. It's an easy job I know it's a bit more work but changing brake fluid every two years is essential.

Oh yeah the increased smoothness is noticeable with 10W oils. It's like a 5W50 or 10W50 cannot be Porsche A40, even though it's a track oil spec. A lot of OE specs have narrow viscosity ranges as well. Though I strongly suspect the oils with viscocity outside the specs get the same additives...

That magnatec sounds interesting. I'll keep my eyes open for it. When I spoke to the Nulon tech he said the reason for 0W and 5W oils is so they can sell and spec the same oil everywhere in the world but the are only really needed in places like Sweden, Siberia, Saskatchewan etc. Which are...

You will find this interesting: https://www.exxonmobil.com/en/basestocks/products/group-ii-base-stocks Basically how using group II+ base can make a more effective oil. I think it's partially the availability of much higher viscosity base oils for blending which by merit have lower noak, higher...

Your thoughts on 15W40 parallel my own. Were not in Greenland and 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25W is irrelevant to us as we are above the minimum operating ranges for all of them. Even 25W. from here at random: https://enginelearner.com/understanding-oil-viscosity-ratings/ I'm not saying I'm going to...

That's a great comment about finding out what the bearings are made from. Aftermarket may be a different composition to stock if they have been changed and would vary depending on brand. My position with high performance high cost engines such as this is that this is definitely not the...

I'm in Australia our fuels come out of Singapore and Malaysia. We get basically the same stuff you do. BP Ultimate, Shell V Power, 98 RON. I would suggest getting the MG Flasher App. Not so much for more power but for the custom code feature which amongst other things will allow you to vary...

I'm no expert but my amateur impression is that oil copped a bit of a hiding. May have been good for 3k miles? What fuel and driving habits trip frequency and lengths. Seems intermittent use and the n63tu are hard on oil. Mind boggles how the oil would have faired over a 10 k mile oci. Looks to...
