    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

If you want to get into this - even though it has no relevance to the topic. I'll start with California does not even have the highest GDP per capita, and CA GDP is large primarily due to population. If a building in LA owned by developers in FL for tax purposes is leased to a firm based in...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

Will probably age itself out, for the same reason I still have cash in my wallet while a lot of people do not. That survey is 8 years old - might already be quite different?

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

Well, do you have a masters in comp sci from a top 10 school and your Thesis was on programming AI models? Or do you have a GED? My point was that people try to make the GDP of California sound so impressive, but in reality its not particularly impressive compared to population. Even in the...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

I'll file this into the "never trust data you have not manipulated yourself" While they may have the highest GDP, they do not have the highest per capita GDP - I think there 3rd or 4th. There just a very populous state. In fact SD has almost the same per capita GDP as CA. Not many people...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

A V engine is not inherently more reliable. V8's used to be reliable comparatively, but even years ago inline 6's were even more reliable generally. They went the way of the dodo and you were left with Turbo vs V8, and while turbo'd engines are not inherently unreliable either, it seemed many...

    Toyota ... warped rotors

The timing sort of lines up with lateral run out, to me anyway.

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

I have crawled all over our 2019 Rav4, my first Toyota. I haven't found anything compelling enough to make me believe its particularly better than any other car I have owned. I think the Toyota myth is a bit self fulfilling. People worried about longevity buy Toyota's due to reputation, then...

    Toyota ... warped rotors

I don't think brake rotor "warping" is a function of using the brakes. Personally I think its caused more by lateral run-out on the bearing, which over time causes the thickness around the diameter of the disk to be uneven. You could prove or disprove this with a dial meter.

This I believe, but its not a technical problem.

Never mentioned CNC. Generally do repetitive jobs off-site, and more often than not are open loop, because they don't react to anything. Also was not comparing a pilot to a robot, only that camera's can and have been used unobtrusively by directly monitoring the controls and nothing else...

    Retro Sports Sedan comparo

Not sure I see the significant advantage of front wheel drive sedan vs a front wheel drive CUV actually. How about a RWD 2003 G35 with a 6 speed manual for @GR_CoB ?

Mine was a technical argument, based on some adjacent experience. Your the one that made it personal, mostly by belittling me and an industry you don't know.

Direct Part marking was invented by Denso - to track auto parts - not by the airline industry. RFID was invented by the security guys for card access, not by the airline industry. Both are now used to track Aircraft parts. Aircraft tracking has gone on for longer due to regs. However you...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

You seem to think that only aircraft have every part "instrumented" and logged, but I can tell you thats not the case. Thats the entire concept behind closed loop control. But its OK for you to slander manufacturing as being inferior. Who do you think makes all those flight controls? There...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

Again, mixing metaphors. If your saying a camera would be redundant - possibly. To say it would record false data I find hard to believe if done properly. To say management would use it punitively might be fair, but thats not a technology issue. I have been in lots and lots of manufacturing...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

I am sure aviation sensors are a higher quality and more expensive based on environment, but everything in a industrial control system has a positive feedback on the motor, if its mission critical it has a positive feedback on the mechanical itself, and if it involves human safety its SIL rated...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

I don't understand aviation, but your wrong about industrial - everything that moves has feedback on it, and if a person can be injured it must be SIL rated. What we found years ago is the controller logs would tell the story but the operator would claim they told the machine to do something...

    "Fuel Efficiency Standards Are Dead"

Thats not true, I am talking about financial services sector (part of GDP - like 20% - financing, insurance, etc) not capital appreciation of publicly traded companies (not part of GDP or productivity). So your mixing metaphors. Yes, like I said I agreed that our productivity has become...

Video has long been used in manufacturing process control to correlate what is actually done at the control panel. They typically do not show the operator at all just their hand adjusting settings and controls - thats it. It does two things - understand what the operator is doing right or...

    Supertech filters discontinued?

Walmart oil filters seem to be strangely stocked by region. Here the MP went away a year ago. Last I looked which admittedly was a month ago they had a handful of the ST's left, which is basically a $1 luber finer walmart sells for $4. I have yet to see the new Purolator here either - still...
