So why does Amsoil tend to thicken up?

Title says it all- why does Amsoil tend to thicken up over time more so than other synthetics?

Oil filter flow 22mm vs 3/4"?

Was also just thinking on a somewhat unrelated note... I don't think I would mount a remote kit above the height of the factory filter outlet. The filter may have an anti-drainback valve but I bet the oil in the line BEFORE the mount would drain back through the pump into the pan. Each time you...

Oil filter flow 22mm vs 3/4"?

True, flow may not be affected but due to friction loss PRESSURE can definately be decreased. Smaller diameter oil line will have more of a psi loss than a larger diameter line (including loss from fittings, etc.) Just don't know why Amsoil uses such small hoses (as compared to the orafices in...

Oil filter flow 22mm vs 3/4"?

If the outlet is the reduction then 20mm is larger than the 13/32" hose on the Amsoil kit.

Gary,a re you thinking the intake holes in the filter?

Oil filter flow 22mm vs 3/4"?

Shoot, the ID of the hose on that kit is even smaller at 13/32". Even the higher flowing marine kit uses 1/2" ID hose. That and the fittings on the mount are 3/4-16 "o-ring". Best would be to adapt that to some higher flowing Earls plumbing in the -8 to -10 range (-12 would be better but again...

Viscosity recomendations for Nissan VQ4.0L. Opinions wanted.

Sounds good guys. I changed out the factory fill at 1204 miles with 10W-30 Amsoil (had a bunch laying around). Ran that for a couple thousand miles as a 'flush fill' and changed again with same stuff. Will run an analysis or two over the next 7500 miles so we'll see what happens.

    Amsoil Manual tranny oil

I've use Amsoil in general for almost a decade and put the 75W-90 MT in my new Xterra as it is prone to notchy shifting. Didn't really smooth it out anything noticable but I figured it would at least offer better wear protection. Then on a whim I changed it out for some Redline MT-90 which is...

Viscosity recomendations for Nissan VQ4.0L. Opinions wanted.

Hello! Have a newer Xterra with the 4.0L VQ engine. I've been hearing that the VQ's prefer a little thicker oil. Manual states the now common 5w-30 but also lists either 10W-30 or 10W-40 for temps over 0deg. Well, I generlly prefer thicker oil films for better protection and fuel milage is a...

    Bypass psi critical?

Hmm... Interesting how the new EAO13 is rated at 8-11 psi while the older SDF13 is rated at 12-16 psi.

    Bypass psi critical?

Thanks for all the info guys! I guess I want to go with a bigger filter because I just like a larger oil capacity and a larger filter area can't hurt either. Cost is the same for both anyway. So, looks like the concensus is that the bypass rating is maybee not all that critical? As for media...

    Bypass psi critical?

I have an '06 Xterra that uses an Amsoil EA013 filter- which is TINY! Looks like a much larger EAO36 will physically fit but it has a different bypass psi rating. Original is 8-11psi and the larger is 11-17psi. Neither filter will ever see more than 8000 miles. I'm running either 10W-30 or 5W-30...
