Top Tier fuels, I think they work

Clogged up the single point fuel injection of my late 90’s car by religiously using the cheapest of the cheap. In my neighborhood a discount brand, Valero is now TT. So it’s an easy choice. Don’t know why PEA should be so expensive if bought as an additive. Should be a buck and a half for a...

    Synthetic oil differences

All of them assuming normal usage and change intervals. Realistically, what takes us out of our vehicles? Probably a half dozen other things that have nothing to do with engine oil. I can think of a few in no particular order: 1. Lifestyle change. Marriage and a family means sporty car gets...

Benefits and Reasons to Buy an iPhone?

I’m a Supertech Synthetic kind of guy. I almost never buy the “name brand” product. I’m of the opinion that there is a no-name out there that’s just as good and cheaper. I make an exception for Apple products. Durable, well-integrated reliable. This device is almost six years old and just fine...

How long does it take you to hand-wash a pickup truck?

About an hour? Two bucket (Garry Dean) method with rinseless car wash and about 20 cheap microfiber towels from Walmart. Not particularly fast except that it gives a surface suitable for waxing as soon as you are done. I use one of the new durable spray waxes every 2-3 months. Optimum spray...

Post your HOA horror stories here

My particular HOA is minimal, which is the way I like it. We are at the sufferance of the officers though. A couple of changes in personality and it’s a very different place. There’s an HOA in metro Phoenix, “Ahwatukee” which is just notorious. They actually made it a violation of the...

    No hose carwash advice wanted

I like it fine, but so far as I know, all of the no-rinse products are good.

    No hose carwash advice wanted

I would go to the coin op, rinse it off with plain water ( and especially get the undercarriage good) then do a two bucket wash at home with a no-rinse wash. Two buckets and lots (about 20) Walmart micro fiber cloths. Follow up with one of the new, fairly durable spray waxes.

    Thank you Garry Dean; BITOG

P.S. Sadly, I’ve found nothing comparable for the interior of the car. It looks every bit of 10 years old.

    Thank you Garry Dean; BITOG

I guess that Garry Dean guy does (or did). Plenty of people use rinseless washes in a more conventional way. I think this way is a bit more conservative (and guaranteed to leave a spot-free finish.) My municipality frowns on using a running hose in the driveway. I don’t particularly care to...

    Thank you Garry Dean; BITOG

Garry Dean was the detailer who promoted the method at the time. His name may have dropped away from association with it since. I’ve never been quite sure what spray detailer is. I suspect it is just way overpriced detergent. It’s all a matter of inputs vs. outputs. Yes, you can exclusively...

    Thank you Garry Dean; BITOG

Thank you BITOG. After almost exactly 10 years, I can report that the “Garry Dean” rinseless car wash method I learned here has been a howling success. (concentrated rinseless car wash in spray bottle followed by use of multiple sopping wet microfiber towels, followed by wrung out mf towel...

A Case For Not Going 10,000 Miles on an OCI

True. My experience is It’s other things that take us out of our cars. Usually cosmetic things, truth be told, but there are guys who also neglect every other mechanical thing except for oil changes.

A Case For Not Going 10,000 Miles on an OCI

When I ran my Ford down almost to zero on the IOLM with all MC filter and oil, it was 9.3K miles. UOA said oil was OK—-barely. I’ll go that long with full synthetic but normally about 20% on IOLM, about 8K You need a reasonable margin of error.

NISSAN leaf thinking of buying Used

Yeah. I wonder what the thinking is of the legislators: “Let’s subsidize EVs on one hand and specially tax them on the other. Don’t worry. No one will notice.” I understand that a Leaf is quite serene to drive.

Not trolling, but all things being equal, why not just use SuperTech for everything?

Honestly? I Pay a place to change using the oil I bring in and I am too embarrassed to bring in Supertech synthetic. Assuming it meets specs it’s hard to argue the numbers.

How did you get your young adult behind the wheel?

Just gave basic instruction and then made her be my (bad) chauffeur for six months. If I were king I would start the learner!s permit at least six months earlier than it is now. Down South they used to think that you are a lost cause if you weren’t driving by 13.

What was your (reasonable) dream car as a teen?

Early 70s would have been a 240z hands down for about anyone my age if that was a “reasonable” dream car. probably a Datsun or. Toyota sedan more realistically. Honda had some kind of tin can they sold which was reputed to have a motorcycle engine. Insurance companies priced young people out...

Trend of single family home prices dropping hard in "non-hot markets"

I think it’s topped out in my area. My house has always been the median price house in my area. Suddenly, and I mean suddenly, the median price has doubled. No way on earth could I sell my house for anything like that even in this market. Credit standards are good, so those sales represent...
