Intel brings back workers’ free coffee, seeking to stem morale decline

Amongst the layoffs and cessation of free coffee, Intel should look more closely at the CEO's $3M bonus (okay, it was last year's bonus, but still...).

    New tool thread

For the Tundra ATF fill, check out this video. He uses that very filler spout, replacing the tubing with 54" of 5/8" OD (1/2" ID) tubing from Home Depot. I used the same setup just a couple of weeks ago and did not spill a drop. It's gravity fed from the engine bay -- no pump needed.

One use tools that just sit around

After doing a wheel bearing on the Sienna, I bought a tool whose sole purpose is to un-stake the axle nut (having garfed one up doing the bearing swap). Of course, I haven't had to do another bearing since.

Healthy - lifestyle changes or a pill for the symptoms

When my doctor tried to prescribe blood pressure meds, I said no, I'll work on diet and exercise. He never even suggested lifestyle changes. 20 years later, I take no meds, run/exercise regularly, and am in better shape than most people my age (early 60s). And doctors make more $$ from...

What was the first car you worked on regularly?

Our 2004 Sienna. I was a late bloomer.

What are things you will never do again?

Mardi Gras. Even when I was young and appreciated a good party, NO was just a gross place to be during Mardi Gras. Did not enjoy it at all. RAGBRAI, on the other hand, I'd do again if I had the time, even if it's been over 30 years.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

Just replaced the rear valve cover gasket and plugs on our 2004 Toyota Sienna. Some of the valve cover bolts were finger tight. The back cover/plugs are a bear and took plenty of time and adult language to complete. Also cleaned throttle body and MAF while I was in there. ~187K miles.

    TOYOTA oil filter

It really depends on the dealership. My closest Toyota one routinely marks up parts at 150% of MSRP. I can generally get stuff cheaper by ordering from another dealership that participates in the autoparts.toyota.com program, as long as I can get up to the free shipping at $75. And they often...

    First OBD scanner

In order to get ATF temp for an upcoming fluid change on my Tundra, I bought the even cheaper Veepeak ($13.99) and use Car Scanner ELM OBD2 (mentioned above) - the free version. That Veepeak (the blue one) only talks to Android, so if you have an iPhone, you'll need the BLE or BLE+ dongle.

"I'm gonna need a rag". Priceless.

    Need help understanding torx types

I needed those on my Sienna when doing the valve cover gaskets. It was a bracket for the ignition wiring harness, I think.

Question about damage to new radiator from shipping

I'd much rather buy local, but the price difference was significant ($150 from RA vs $330 @ Napa).

Question about damage to new radiator from shipping

My packaging was similar. It was ordered from RockAuto.
