Double check the stamped marking on the domenof the filter to make sure it's the right part number. I've had 2 shipments of Champ filters from Rock Auto be mislabeled.

Earthbound, I'm pretty sure it's all Pentastar engines, but I definitely could be wrong. Either way I think the filter looks great!

I think some are misunderstanding the OP's question, or maybe I am 🤷🏼‍♂️ He is referring to the hole that I circled, it's outside the oil filter seal surface. It collects dirt and debris and is open to the atmosphere all day long, there's no way that goes back into the engine...

I recently bought a 6 pack of the Champ PH2867XL, which is the the same application as the 7317. I don't have one on yet, but once I get a run in I'll cut it open 👍🏻

So... the new synthetic blend Ultra with no wire backing, run for 9000 miles and it looks great! I'm anxious for more c&p's of the new style Ultra, hopefully someone runs one out to 20k miles! Maybe then we can accept that the new Ultra is still a great filter, even with the "cheapened"...

Correct, that's what they changed is the pour spout. I added pour spout to the thread title now, just saying "design" made it seem as though I just meant the artwork/label 👍🏻

Exactly... Look at the cap on yours, then the cap on the new bottle.

Look again, this is the current "easy pour" bottle design. The one I posted has an entirely different spout 👍🏻
