Even if you don’t want to push your oil to 20k it’s nice to know that the oil has what it takes to go a bit longer than others. For instance, if you want to be doing 10k intervals would you rather use an oil that’s rated for 10k or one that’s rated for 20k?

It’s not an official designation but some will unofficially call GTL base oils group 3+ since they are closer in performance to that of a PAO base oil.

The one thing with CVTs is that you should stay on top of the fluid changes. I don’t think that they can handle neglect like a conventional automatic transmission

Because used oil is more acidic and can do more damage to the engine when it’s sitting for a long period of not being used. And then that oil is basically still brand new for the beginning of the driving season.
