Thanks, good to know. So with a good 2t oil, 40:1 should be "perfectly fine" in a 50:1 spec. machine. Which also means that I do not need to measure the oil out with great precision, it is OK if I am a bit on the high side.

    Stens 120-738 hydro filter

I see several x-ref options to the OEM Hydro-gear branded 52114 filter. Stens is one of them, then there is Rotary and Wix xrefs also. One thing that confuses me: these filters are not supposed to have a bypass valve, because of the alleged high pressure operation. The theory, is that the...

Help me choose a zero turn.

All automotive engine oil filters have bypass. Like discussed in this thread before, a filter with bypass will not work well. The OEM filters are high-efficiency. AFAIK, the Hydrogear is 10 micron rated. Some of the x-referenced cheaper brands are lesser rated. The contaminants filtered are...

OK this seems interesting: So you guys say the 50:1 is strictly for political correctness, and all equipment that calls for that, will work fine with something like 1:40 or even 1:32? In fact, may be even better off for wear? No problems with hard starting, poor running or any other ill...

Some of the pre-mixes are not only ethanol free, but also aromatic content free. (You have about 30% aromatics in gas station fuel, mostly responsible for gum formation). I am not entirely clear on the exact process of gasoline "going bad" and how the various fuel stabilizers counter this...

You guys are lucky to be able to source E0 gasoline. Hard to come by where I am at (MA, US), for the time being I have been paying a king's ransom for engineered fuel 1:50 ($5 per quart) until I figure out where to get E0, or how to make my own. I think if you are mixing your own, using a low...

    German Castrol replacement

I think there was some manufacturing plant re-shuffling in europe, and what used to be German Castrol, is now Belgian Castrol. Both are mostly PAO based as I recall, because of stricter euro labeling requirements. I do not remember the exact details, but recall something like to be labelled...

Help me choose a zero turn.

I have a racing jack, and tried to lift it by the front of the frame where the counter weights are. That did not give me enough clearance to get my air impact wrench under the deck. Although I should try it again with the deck in the highest position. Lifting by the deck may work, but: Won't...

Help me choose a zero turn.

Gillsy, Thanks, I have a wall mounted balancer like you suggest. I just do not have an easy way figured out to get under the deck, otherwise I would have balanced the blades already. I use a belt sander to sharpen the blades. Waiting for the local HF to get the Fischer Mower jacks to be back...

Thoughts About Motorcyle Oil In Lawn Mower

Hank2, In a snowblower, a lower winter viscosity oil may be useful for easy cold weather starts. Somethin like a 0w40 or 5w40. Maybe a 5w30. The 1st (winter) number makes no difference once you reached operating temperature, it is strictly a cold start thing. I am a fan of heavier oils and...

Thoughts About Motorcyle Oil In Lawn Mower

JASO MA is a japanese spec, especially for motorcycles with wet clutch. It is about decreasing clutch slippage, its main requirements are static and dynamic friction coefficients. Some friction modifiers ( those that make the oil less slippery) may be added, or others (those that make the oil...

Help me choose a zero turn.

Looked at a few fully electric Zt mowers. The big box variants I see strike me as low end with their stamped decks, and light-duty deck suspension. They also tend to have questionable, low end Li batteries. For example, the current crop of high capacity EGO batteries seem to have some problems...

Kawasaki Oil or Mobil 1 ?

Sorry for the thread necromancy.. Just updating with current info. Kawi has now a ktech 15w50 "fully synthetic" product. Among other things this features boosted zddp, and JASO-MA cert. They compare this to their other ktech oils which they say are synthetic blends. The JASO-MA is a Japanese...

The latest development in the Ariens deck vibration saga: Support says engineering is working on a solution, but have not reached a conclusion as of yet. Which is why they cannot send me a new belt. The support guy at least gave me an explicit permission to put on a shorter aftermarket belt...

    Non Kia-Hyundai oil filters--still a problem???

Oh. Oil starved engine startup rattle, because of something like a not so good ADB valve? That makes sense. But once the engine starts up and the oil starts flowing, you cant hear any difference, right?

Help me choose a zero turn.

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Everybody's situation is different. I hate spending money as much as the next guy. For me, the primary driver was time savings. Mowing is totally wasted time for me, I wanted to minimize it. I do not trust anybody to do my maintenance for me, so hiring it out was...

Not a Protero bagger. It is the 2 bin Ariens/Gravely. The dealer is not interested in helping me. He is only interested in turning a profit.

Help me choose a zero turn.

One key difference: It is a high pressure application. For this reason, these filters must not have a bypass valve. Otherwise, the filter would be operating in bypass all the time. So be careful when substituting an automotive filter than may fit dimensionally.

Help me choose a zero turn.

Ariens/Gravely support refuses to send me a new belt. They acknowledged the problem and recommended the solution of using a shorter belt. The latest communication I had from their tech support was this: "Engineering did not give the go ahead to use a different belt so I am unable to supply...

Help me choose a zero turn.

The unpleasant aspect of taking it back to the dealer, is that I have to pay to pick it up, and then if the dealer and Ari decide that: "it works good enough", then I will just be down for a week or two for nuthing, and I am on the hook for whatever labor charge the dealer decides to hit me...
