Kia key replacement cost at dealership vs local locksmith

My 2020 Wrangler only had one key. I got the new one through a locksmith, plus the programming, and 2 keys just for unlocking the doors for $250. I wouldn’t go to the dealership. He had never seen a vehicle with push button start but manual door locks and hand crank windows. It’s a Jeep thing.

Article on the effect of auto tariffs on Canada.

My 2019 Rogue was originally sold in Ontario, and they had 2 others on the lot from there as well when I was shopping. I see XTR F150's all over Iowa, which is the Canadian version of the Sport model. I think it happens in waves depending on the value of the dollar.

Who else rolls around on the ground greasing ball joints and such?

When I replaced the swap bar links on my 2014 Town and Country, they came with zerks. I add a pump every time I rotate the tires. I had to add some early a couple weeks ago as they started banging around. I recently bought a Jeep JLU and need to climb around it to see what needs to be greased.

Why is e85 still for sale everywhere?

When I moved to IA and got my company Chevy with the 8.1L, I assumed it was E85 and filled it up. It was winter. It would start very hard, and then lope like a top fuel dragster for a minute or so until it warmed up enough for a smooth idle. Sounded awesome. Oddly enough it never threw a CEL...

Why are vinyl seats no longer an option?

I immediately felt the deep burn on my legs from the black vinyl seats of my dad’s 78 D100 when I read this title. OUCH. I’d rather have a cup of McDonalds coffee spilled in my lap.

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

48 here and starting to realize how much I hurt after working on cars. I’m not giving up yet, but I’m starting to think through my next steps. Having an 11, 9, and 5 year old will help. Time for them to become my hands and back.

Why is e85 still for sale everywhere?

Iowa has a decal on all E85 pumps that states it will be no lower than 70% ethanol.

Wrangler JL Clutch Recall, Dealer Experience..Ugh..

I drove a JK manual and decided that all my future Jeeps would be an Automatic. I had a Manual YJ, and loved it, but that JK had no clutch feel at all, which I had been warned about. Then the JL clutch problems surfaced, and an automatic was a no brainer, for me. Good luck with the repair!

    Post your latest oil change

2009 Toyota Camry 246645 miles on the car 3300 miles on the oil and 12 months. It’s my daughter’s car, which was a gift to her for graduating high school a year ago, and sees a lot of short trips, but an occasional run to Des Moines. It was my daily driver for some time. Out: Valvoline...

    Post your latest oil change

2019 Nissan Rogue 33029 miles on the car 3000ish miles and 12 months on the oil. Same oil and filter in and out. Valvoline Advanced 0w-20 Purolator 15000 miles on the filter. I would go longer, but my son bought the car from me for his young family and I want it fresh for him.

Why is e85 still for sale everywhere?

I use it regularly. Chrysler Town and Country- I just did about 1000 miles mostly on E85 and got 22mpg. E10 gets 24 usually on the same trip. Ford F150 NA3.5. Gets 18-19 mpg on E85 and 19-20 on E10, same drive. I’ll do a 50/50 run occasionally in my non Fkex Fuel for some cleaning...

Two hot retirement states, one expected, one surprise

Funny. I’m a midwesterner that moved to the Central Valley. Lasted 5 years and have happily been in IA since. My neighbor in CA moved to MI for 2 and came running back. I do miss it, but have nightmares about moving back to CA.

Ram Trucks w/ 8SPD. No shift when door is open.

My Jeep 8 speed is just as fun. In neutral at the car wash, and as I got to the end, it would not let me drop it down into drive. I had to put it in park, then Drive. It was on a conveyor belt, not rolling. This, and the reverse lock out are ridiculous.

The average car loan today is $48,000

It takes a LONG time before repairs cost more than a monthly payment these days. I suppose that is for us on this forum, and your everyday person who takes their car to a shop may argue it costs more for them. I do know of someone who trades cars every other year and gets a new house every 5...

Anyone running Large A/T tires that are "quiet"

I have the Defender LT on my 2017 F150 that sees off-road use farming and have been deeply impressed with them in mud and snow. This is the first set I’ve had. I have KO3’s on my Wrangler and like them, but they do have some noise. Goodyear Wrangler Adventuretrack with the Kevlar sidewalls...

Anything to consider if the Tundra is used less and parked outside?

I laughed way to hard at these pictures. I second the Fliud Film and would use a good Hybrid Ceramic coating at a minimum, reapplied every 6 months. When our trusty, rust free Chrysler Voyager van got kicked outside it was only 2 years before I started seeing rust. It sat those 2 winters...

New Dodge Hornets reported as selling 33 percent below MSRP- worth consideration??

We made it to 130k miles and I will be dumping it next year, as it just keeps on giving the nickel and dime stuff. 1. Sliding doors are now manual only (I know, cry me a river) 2. Rear hatch won't always go all the way up, even after a strut change, so the button to close it won't work until...

    Garden Planting Time

Zone 4 here, Central IA I'm a touch early, but our weather has made me too itchy to not plant. 1. Lettuces and lettuce mixes 2. Kale 3. Peas 4. Turnip (old seed, only 1 sprouted) 5. Carrots, again old seed and not sprouted, but I refreshed the area with new seed over the weekend. I'll...
