    Honda VCM Disabling Questions

Nope. Scan tool software is basically reverse engineered from OE, and Honda definitely doesn't want it to be disabled, whether it's better for the engine or not.

GM SPS programming woes - 2018 Regal TourX

Frankly no, but I did find their official instructions; here's GM's generic programming spiel, taken from the service manual for a 2010 Silverado, only because it's the first vehicle I could think of. That being said, hooking up a jumper battery should have kept it in range anyway, so I agree...

    Disappointed in new quick struts

This has been out experience as well. I've warranted more Monroe quick struts and shocks for noise or leaks than I can count. We install KYB when we can get them, but if we can't FCS are more available in our area, and we have yet to see any come back.

    BG stop squeal

We used it at the shop one time for a lady who's rear brakes on her Honda Odyssey were squealing, but weren't even close to worn out. Tried to save her the price of a brake job but in this instance anyway it didn't work. For the record, we've used and recommended BG products for years, so I...

    2007 Santa Fe 2.7 L - PCV Valve location

Looks like it. If you take that U shaped vacuum hose off, and then the little piece of foam, the pcv valve should be threaded into the rear bank valve cover.

GM SPS programming woes - 2018 Regal TourX

The problem is that you could hook 200 or 200,000 12 volt batteries in parallel, and you will still only have 12.6 volts, which is too low for what the software is looking for. You need a power supply for programming that supplies more voltage. Now whether or not this is what bricked the module...

GM SPS programming woes - 2018 Regal TourX

Not sure what you experienced, as everybody's individual experience can be different depending on varying circumstances, but our experience is quite the opposite; there is a voltage range that the software looks for, but I can't find it documented anywhere. That said, we have a power supply...

Valvoline VO-76 collapsed from engine damage

Yeah, looks pretty normal, and I agree, never intended to blame the filter; more just insight into how it reacted to some pretty extreme conditions. Here are a couple pics of the center tube, with a pic of a 27082mp for comparison of its location when new.

Valvoline VO-76 collapsed from engine damage

As far as I know yes; I was pretty surprised myself. Honestly with how it was acting I was expecting it to be low on oil, but other than smelling pretty bad and not looking great for only having 2K miles or so on it since it's last change it was alright. Also, he wasn't really known for long...

Valvoline VO-76 collapsed from engine damage

Oh yeah, I'm sure it was trashed. I told him I'd love it if it only needed timing chains, but with that much metal in it no way would it be that simple, and with the mileage he wasn't up for the expense of an engine. I can grab a pic of the center tube tomorrow, but other than the wire backed...

Valvoline VO-76 collapsed from engine damage

Every filter I've ever removed from one of these engines has been collapsed. Hard to believe they wouldn't have designed the center tube to support the media against the bypass spring pressure in the cap, but it only goes like 3/4 of the way up the inside.

Valvoline VO-76 collapsed from engine damage

Pulled this out of a friend's 2011 Equinox with the 2.4 and about 175K on the clock. Came in with a complaint of random hard starts, start and stall, and stalling at stoplights. It had only sat for about 10 minutes before I brought it in, but rattled on startup like it was struggling to build...

    Third brake light always on

All of the rear light wiring on this truck goes directly back to the BCM, meaning the brake pedal sensor or switch sends a signal to the BCM to turn the lights on. Also, the center brake light is on a completely separate circuit, controlled by a relay in the underhood fuse panel. You could have...

Tire patch too close to edge?

It's pretty definitively outside the industry standard acceptable repair area, as previously stated it will flex too much. Would I patch it if it was mine? Probably not. Would I gamble the reputation of the shop I work at and my personal finances and freedom on the possibility it failed on a...

Tire recommendation for 1998 Ranger 2WD?

We install a lot of the RT45s and we really like them. For the most part they balance up really well and rarely need any road force adjustments; that would definitely be my pick.

Tire recommendation for 1998 Ranger 2WD?

If you want to get spendy, BF Goodrich has the Radial T/A available in this size too, otherwise these two and the Generals are what I see the most of after a quick search as well.

    Microguard Select MSL51334 C&P

Came off of my 60k mile 2018 Sonata with the Theta II marshmallow engine. Filter has 4k miles on it, topped off with a BG EPR service to help correct some minor oil consumption. Filter is remarkably unremarkable; no excessive pleat spacing or other issues that I could see. Partsmaster 5w40 full...

    Microgard Select - No Love?

I have one off of my 18 Sonata cut apart at work, just haven't gotten pics yet to post. It only has 4K miles on it, but it looks pristine inside.

Have you ever had to replace an engine in a car?

The only engine I ever had go bad that I owned was in my wife's 99 Escort. Dropped the #4 valve seat at about 160K. I was mad too, the inside of that engine was pristine, but it messed the head and block up bad enough it wasn't worth fixing the one that was in it. Got one out of what was...
