Using 0w40 in a car that asks for 0w30?

I managed to find a very good deal on a Castrol Magnatec C3 5w30 in the end. Local shop to me as well which was convenient so I went with that. Sounds like they are pretty unbothered cars though so it's good to know I can likely pair it up with my 0w40 that I buy for my old Peugeot 306 as well...

Using 0w40 in a car that asks for 0w30?

It's a manual yeah. Tiny little thing. Got 36,000 miles on it currently. Was owned by a little old lady before and kept in a garage all its life. 🙂 First thing I predict will need doing is the clutch. 🤣

Using 0w40 in a car that asks for 0w30?

Hi all! 🙂 It's coming up to my sisters service on her 1.0 Peugeot 108. It has a little 3 cylinder engine with a timing chain and standard port injection. If I put her number plate in on "what oil for my car" websites they almost always come up with 0w30, with them sometimes suggesting 10w-40...

Lubrication Explained - Revolutionary Oil versus Dyno Test

Interesting idea. The thought of the copper "Filling in" the worn areas sounds good for bearings perhaps, but what impact does it have on the cross hatching on the cylinder bores? Are the grooves in those just way too big for the copper to fill? I maybe thinking on an entirely different scale of...

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

Good point. Ideally though it's best to pair a decent frequency with the best possible oil. 😃

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

An oil like this would likely be very good then. It has a 40w rather than 30w. It has a BMW LL approval, and a MB 229.51 approval. Sounds likely this would be one of the better options for timing chain wear prone engines. *Edit* - Added link to the oil that I was talking to about when I said...

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

Is the N20 a petrol engine? From what I can see with this advice then a LL-04 oil would be best for a diesel engine that suffers chain wear?

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

Because it's an overall kind of question. There are various makes and brands in the UK and Europe that suffer with chain issues. If someone I know ends up with one of those cars it's good to know what may help them out to keep their chain good. 😀

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

I have also done what I should have done first and searched this question. (When I created the thread it didn't recommend this post as a potential similar question). They have also said the same thing. Higher viscosity and a smaller spread (E.g. 10w40 rather than say 0w30)...

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

Interesting info! Thanks all. I'll have a read of that chain test document. So from what I have gathered from these posts, the best would be to try and step up a grade (Say from 0w30 to a 10w40) and try to find an oil with a higher Molybdenum count? I imagine that would likely take it outside of...

    Cleaning of Air Filters?

Thanks! 😀 I'm looking forward to it being another car to look after. 😂

    Cleaning of Air Filters?

Yeah I agree. I was thinking it was probably a detail that has lingered in their documents for years and no one has ever removed it. Filters are readily available for the vehicle so it's not like they are hard to come by. 😂

    Cleaning of Air Filters?

Hi Sayjac, It's a Suzuki Ignis. It's a little 4x4 vehicle. It just seemed odd to me that anyone would recommend / even hint at blowing a filter clean rather than replacing the element. Specially in today's day & age when warranties are critical etc. It just seemed an odd choice of picture /...

Would a C3 Oil Protect a Timing Chain Better Than a C2 Oil?

Hi all. As the title says really. For vehicles that are known to be prone to timing chain issues, would it be worth switching from the often recommended C2 oil to a C3 oil? I ask this as the requirement for C2 oil HTHS is only a minimum HTHS of 2.9 whereas the C3 oil minimum is 3.6. Do you...

    Cleaning of Air Filters?

This is something that interested me when I was having a look through the owners manual on my Moms new Suzuki. I always thought that cleaning an air filter with an air gun was a terrible idea. I thought it would damage the element and no car manufacture would ever consider it an option. What...

I have left the ones out with less than 20 oil changes as the chart became a total mess with all the tiny slithers of the pie.

    Driving Without Coolant Reservoir Cap

I don't think there are many cars out there that don't have pressurized expansion tanks these days. Every car I've owned (produced between 1999 and 2018 have all had pressurized tanks. (Jaguar, Ford, Vauxhall, VW, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo).

2024 Totals: "Post your latest oil change"

Fantastic data gathering Superbuick96 as always! 😀😀 I found a nifty little ranking generator site so I have gone back through the last 5 of these and done a "Top 10" bump chart for them. Sadly the software on the site ran out of colours so a couple have been used twice. 😟 Interesting either...
