    Getting a Ford keypad code

Or on the DDM itself, if it's not on the trunk hinge.

Critique this estimate from the Ford dealer

While most items on the estimate look alright, the figure on the radiator hose and serpentine belts did surprise me. How difficult is it to replace these items? I'd be interested to hear bdcardinal's perspective on this as well. With that being said, since this has turned into a post about...

Best Bi-Directional scan tool for the money?

I second that. Decent, affordable tool for the money with a solid cable connection (no Bluetooth). No issues with mine.

Repaint or replace faded wiper arm?

You can buy a lot of NOS parts for yours for $202 a month over 7 years. ;) Plus the '10-'13 looks a heck of a lot nicer than the abomination they came up with in 2014; it's no wonder they ended up killing the Koup just two years later.

Repaint or replace faded wiper arm?

That looks good! That said, if wiper arms are still available, you may wish to considering purchasing them for use at a later date. With the way the supply chain is right now, and the way a lot of manufacturers are discontinuing parts for vehicles getting older, you never know what...

Subscription based options? I didn't see this coming.

This whole thing about nickel and diming, or just plain milking people, just ticks me off. Only recently, GM, in their infinite wisdom decided to charge Buick and GMC buyers an addition $905 - $1,675 to make OnStar standard: Buick, GMC making OnStar Connected Services standard. Some folks in...

Budget Car Rental - lack of maintenance

I'm the same way; especially when I have the vehicle for six weeks at a time.

    2006 Town Car

For FoMoCo vehicles, my go-to is FORScan.

    2006 Town Car

Not a whole lot to go wrong, other than the rear suspension airbags, which bdcardinal already pointed out. The same applies to Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis' equipped with the Handling and Performance Package. If they are bad, Arnott makes a decent replacement that doesn't cost an arm and a...

I'm DONE with "premium" oil filters

I'm honestly much more concerned about my air filters and making sure they're properly sealed. That said, I do have a lot of NOS Fram Ultra filters that'll last me a long time.

    Carb Cleaner vs Brake Cleaner

For stuff like that, I usually use a low concentration of Simple Green Industrial Degreaser that does the trick. WD-40, as previously mentioned, works relatively well too, leaving behind a mist of oil is so desired.

Anyone using Amsoil Heavy-Duty Antifreeze & Coolant?

I recently replaced the water pump, radiator, all cooling system hoses, coolant reservoir and cap on my Grand Marquis as part of a cooling system upgrade. Although the system was clean and rust-free, I still flushed it out and did a citric acid flush, followed by a thorough flush and back flush...

Buying Parts Through the Repair Shop

Independent shops can source their parts from a number of difference sources; could be the dealership, NAPA or any other parts retailer or even WORLDPAC. Granted it's not uncommon for them to markup their prices, a lot times it's not too far off from what you would pay retail. There is one...

Ac delco or dorman for new fuel sendng unit..98 lesabre

I would avoid anything Dorman. If you cannot get a Delphi part, as outlined above, but an GM Original Equipment part is available, then that will probably be your best bet. No affiliation with the seller whatsoever, but this might be a good option being NOS.

About what year did coolant hoses get good?

Not sure where this was, but over here that's definitely a thing. You're lucky if you get 4-5 years out of an aluminum/plastic radiator in a vehicle that's been driven all throughout summer, before it gets all brittle and starts cracking like an eggshell. A lot of people here replace them as...

    Bonneville sighting

Absolutely gorgeous! Were fender mounted (or door mounted) mirrors optional? I've seen two examples of 64s at car shows with door mounted mirrors.

About what year did coolant hoses get good?

You're lucky to get 3 years out of them here, before they're all swollen up and ready to tear.

Canadian spec car switched to US gauge cluster, reading off

Hopefully it is an easy fix, considering how complicated these things can be. I know on newer GM vehicles, once you switch to metric, everything switches over - including the HVAC settings. Many moons ago, someone I know took his 2002 P72 to FL as a temporary import. Imagine the look on the...

Start/stop feature - the worst function ever?

That's the first thing that gets turned off/disabled when I start a car equipped with Start/Stop. More so a matter of when than if, but when I have a vehicle with this feature, it's something I'll look into disabling permanently.
