    Adventures to the Gulf Coast

***CAUTION***CAUTION***CAUTION***LONG READ AHEAD*** Recently traveled to Biloxi Mississippi to visit my sister and brother-in-law after their recent move there. They secured retired military housing on base in one of the nicest ones I've seen, which can be a rarity from what I'm told. Getting...

    Battery replacement estimate

Wow. At first glance I thought maybe someone got the decimal point 2 places to the right. Still, $268 for a battery is steep, but is dealer. Then I saw that it was for a Volt. Nope, decimal point is in the right place. And the Volt would also be in the right place. The dealer's used car lot 😁.

@Cujet, better be careful with Florida's new speeding law!

Would like to see how the new law plays out in a few months, and after a few arrests/court cases. My thought is that there will be a few arrests early on, then pled out in court, or not pursued by Prosecutor/Solicitor/District Attorney. Police will get blase' with enforcement due to no follow...

    Any BITOGers near Biloxi MS?

VERY familiar with the love child of Cracker Barrel and 7-11, and yes, it IS a religious experience. I've been to 3 in TX, New Braunfels, Temple, and Denton, the 1 you mentioned in Auburn as well as Loxley AL, Daytona and St. Augustine FL, Brunswick GA, Florence SC, and Sevierville TN...

    Any BITOGers near Biloxi MS?

Yep. And it winds around to Gulf Coast of AL and MS from what I hear. Other sister and brother-in-law Live in Gulf Breeze FL and have a condo they rent in Pensacola right on a thin strip of the peninsula between the bay and gulf waters. Watched the Blue Angels on the beach at the "Beach Ball"...

Wiper Issue in MIST Mode – Random 1 to 6 Swipes (2022 Sienna)

Rain sensor at windshield usually controls speed/frequency of wipers in intermittent (mist as you call it) mode. Depending on the amount of rain hitting the sensor can cause it to swipe slow, or crazy fast as you've experienced. Lots of vehicles fitted with this now. There should be some kind of...

What are you working on today?

Pushing 60K+ in the wife's Tiguan, and taking a trip next week, so time again for another trans fluid/filter flush/fill (how's that for alliterative DIY? 😁). Did initial flush and filter at 30K per @RooflessVW 2-bucket method. Set-up takes longer than the actual fluid change.

    Any BITOGers near Biloxi MS?

Headed to Biloxi next week to visit sister and brother-in-law, they just moved into retirement housing on base at Kessler. I know we are going to get seafood at Boomtown, catch some blues at Ground Zero, and head over to Orange Beach AL. to see whats it's like. That area is on the short list for...

Opinion wanted on this torque wrench

Yep. It has dual springs and a symmetrical cam lever(s). Same accuracy clock-wise or counterclock-wise. And the design goes back to the 40s. Nice piece for what it is.

Opinion wanted on this torque wrench

Don't really like dial types for gasketed fasteners. They apply constant torque (duh) even at the desired reading, and have a tendency to crush gaskets too much, especially non-rigid ones, or ones that don't have spacers/shouldered bolts. Just like you've experienced, once the gasket takes a...

    Battery issue or something deeper?

Something is pulling a large amount of amps at start (or not)-up. My guess has that word in it's name ;). Or it could be something as simple as a corroded cable (as in, inside the plastic jacket where you can't easily see).

    Post your latest oil change

2 Tigs in 2 days. Wife's (2020) and one of her coworker's (2024). Oil out for both: Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 Filters out: Mann HU6013Z Both got the same again. Momma's getting the good stuff. Normally, I pass the time sipping on a beer or some bourbon, along with a cigar, while it all goes down...

'26 Escape Can't Be Sold in 6 States

Agreed. The air seems way cleaner than in the past. But on the vehicle side, do you put all the credit with C.A.R.B., or would 49 state regs have done the same? Outside looking in, but CA seems far more over-regulated in this regard for whatever reason. This and all the other regulations, rules...

'26 Escape Can't Be Sold in 6 States

You mean when the cars had basically NO emissions equipment and ran super rich carbureted engine, no vapor recovery at gas pumps, basic gridlock everywhere with cars running and spewing all that filth? Haven't these things improved since then?

HVAC question - manual fan setting

3 levels, all zoned, so 3 units. 1st and 2nd floors are 3.5 ton Lennoxs, 3rd floor (900sq.ft.) is a 2.5 ton Lennox. All running with fan on auto, but each floor is within 3F degrees of each other. Programable stats that run temps down a couple degrees at night like @Hall does to avoid massive...

A/C not working 2015 Kia Sedona

That control solenoid should be electronic activated and you should be able to test voltage/resistance etc. at the harness connection. Had a VW control solenoid go bad and did the same cycling/no cooling as your's. Compressor was still fine, and was able to replace just that control solenoid. Of...

    Honda HRN216 GCV170 autochoke issues

This all day long. What did you save by going generic carb vs. OE Honda? Last one I slapped on an HRN cost $21. Stuff like this it pays off in the long run to spend a few extra bucks for OE parts because they give you way fewer problems. Back to your issue, did you adjust the governor arm...

Is Hybrid Oil Worth it For Super Low Mileage Cars?

None that you would see. Not driving the car would cause more damage than a "better" oil could protect against ;).
