    Inherited a 2017 Cadillac XTS

Beautiful car! I’ve always been a fan of Cadillac’s style, especially the newer CT5s and Escalades. What engine? I’ve looked at a lot of ACDelco dealer parts and gotten quotes, still amazes me that dealers will charge $600-700 an axle for ACDelco brake pads and rotors, when you can get the...

    Mobil 1 M1-205A Cut Open

Looks to be a M+H Tearolator build. These filters aren’t cheap, I would really expect to see a metal crimp seam. At least it has evenly spaced pleats and a silicone ADBV. 10/10 - would never use again 😂.

    Carbon-shedding monster needs oil filters

This would be my choice, or a PG2500EX from RockAuto for $5.22 a piece.

Damaged skid. Why you should change the oil yourself

The first three items listed are the plate, screws, then metal inserts. The last three you can ignore, that’s just an oil change and transmission service. I don’t know if they’re the same parts, you would have to look at both and see.

Damaged skid. Why you should change the oil yourself

I replaced mine on my Camry for <$60, looks like the same skid plate. Is it just the portion that comes undone for doing an oil change. If so, there’s a part number just for the one plastic piece, then you can get the little metal pieces that press onto the plastic for threads, and then the M10...

2025 High School graduation gift ideas?

For me, the best gifts I got were those that made life easier / better in college and money. For example, a nice fan with an air filter and cooling/heating modes like a Dyson blade less, noise cancelling headphones for studying (like Bose QCs), a nice large monitor to split screen Canvas and...

    Carshield

Not very good. The only decent/good extended warranty is Fidelity Platinum, and really only worth it for incredibly luxury cars or a low mileage vehicle <2 years old. Can be purchased from Steingold Volvo. The platinum plan is a exclusionary plan, where only things that aren't included are...

How Much Time do you Spend on Oil Research/Analysis

Too much time, but I enjoy it. It’s more that I like the chemistry aspect of research and gaining knowledge, not so much research for personal purchase or use. For those, I just gravitate to the top of the line oil from any brand that is available at Walmart and a filter I can purchase from...

FRAM PRO 9688, 4,500 miles CUT OPEN

There’s a wicked gap at the bottom of the glue seam. Thanks for the pics! I’ll stick to only metal crimped seams forever, lol.

2013 John Deere X738 Engine Oil with Kawasaki FD750D Engine

I’ve thought about running R&P in my OPE, I even did for a short period in my mower before tearing the engine down to repair it. IMO, R&P is too volatile for OPE. The oil runs quite hot in comparison to car engines. I would be worried if R&P could handle the heat without breaking down or...

Please name some 0W-20 Boutique oils

Off the top of my head - Schaeffers, HPL, Red Line, Amsoil, and Driven. Kinda Boutique, but in other countries are widely available or can be bought at a big box store - Royal Purple, Motul, and LiquiMoly. There’s also a few that are large motor oil companies in Europe like Fuchs.

CQ Premium 84502 vs Motorcraft FL500s

I've been stocking up the most I can from RockAuto closeout of the CQ Premiums. Up to 17 total filters, I think (don't really know 😅 ), but that's both my leftover WIX and all the CQs I have. It's sadly only a years worth, or there about. 10 filters/year for cars, 1 for mower, 1 or 2 for...

CQ Premium 84502 vs Motorcraft FL500s

Not at all. I just hope Premium Guard can keep up the production quality in the following years and that no private equity firm takes it over.

CQ Premium 84502 vs Motorcraft FL500s

Another fantastic video from Whip City Wrencher, for all those who are interested. TL;DR - CQ Premium is higher quality, has better filter media, a thicker can, a thicker media, and has holes vs louvers (for those who have a preference).

2020 escape hybrid vs 2021 Lincoln corsair.

I think it depends pretty highly on what you want out of a car. If you want a hybrid system that rides fine or a luxury car with a better ride and more power. Have you looked at any other options? The hybrid system in the Ford is a lot better than it used to be, and from what I can tell...

What are you using on OPE?

All my OPE gets Rotella T6 15w40. That includes a 20HP Briggs mower, a 5.5 HP Briggs pressure washer, a Honda GVC190 push mower, and all my friends/family OPE as well. My jetski, an ‘18 STX15f, gets T6 15w40 now as well, had LiquiMoly PWC 10w40 before. All OPE also gets a WIX 51348 oil filter...
