    Subaru CVTF-III anything special?

Yea, I told her to go to the dealer for a spill and fill. Not gambling. I’ll have her check back in at 120K if she still has it. This ain’t a Toyota or Lexus here.

    Subaru CVTF-III anything special?

Is Subaru CVTF-III anything special or is it an update on their CVTF-II? I may be doing a spill and fill on a 2021 Forester and may be staring at using aftermarket fluid if the dealer isn’t open. Valvoline claims their CVTF meets all the Subaru specs, but MaxLife doesn’t list CVTF-III. Castrol...

    Cerakote headlight restoration kit.

I used the Cerakote kit on a car that says outside. And it’s clouding up again.

Hertz will scan your rental return with AI

Aye, sounds like Hertz is scrounging for revenue. If this rolls out at their Uber/Doordash hubs(usually a bigger HLE location), easy money.

Best cell phone carrier for the money?

It depends on which Visible(or cable company or other Verizon MVNO) plan you’re on. If you’re on the basic $25/month plan, you’re on the lowest tier along with the other Verizon pre-paid(Ultra by Verizon and Xfinity Mobile/Spectrum Mobile). If you’re on Visible Plus, you’ll be higher up the...

Charter/Spectrum and Cox Communication merger talks

Corporate VPNs using IPSec won’t play nice with 5G “home” internet access. Funny enough, Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile LTE or 5GUW(or UC on T-Mo that combines sub-6GHz and mmWave) is used as a fallback with corporate SD-WANs if the main fiber/metro Ethernet or coax goes down. It’s how NAT and routing...

    Aftermarket Subaru Blue Coolant Ok?

The current OEM Subaru coolant from the dealer does state 2-EHA on the label and Prestone is the supplier. Prestone is now a part of Recochem. I have a jug of Prestone Platinum Asian Blue here for a friend’s 21 Forester.

Is this filter longer version of the YZZD1?

You also forgot the Scion iA/US-spec Yaris iA - itself a Mazda2 and it uses a Mazda filter.

Minivans eat tires…anyone put XL rated tires on?

If we had an second generation Odyssey, I’ve been seeing Michelin or Conti selling a Agilis CrossClimate or VancoContact FourSeason in the 235/65R16C size that Honda specified for the non-Touring models with Pax tires or 18” wheels for the mid-cycle no-Pax refresh...

Mahle now selling oil filters made in China ?

Toyota and Honda have Japanese staff at their plants - and so do their suppliers. Keep in mind, there are German-Chinese JVs too. Like I said, I wouldn’t hesitate to use a Chinese or Indian(Harley) Mahle. Many here hold Premium Guard in high regard. And they’re Chinese.

    $0 R-134a recovery.

I’ve heard of using an evacuated can or an old propane tank, and having it in a bath of dry ice and alcohol(IPA or EtOH) with success. It’s disposing of that refrigerant if contaminated that is an issue.

Dayco timing belt kit. Hope it's ok

Yea, I had to get OEM Toyota(Toyoda Gosei) hoses on a Lexus, the aftermarket BrakeBest ones were causing some weird brake bias issues. While the hose stock comes from one the major tubing makers(Gates, Parker, Danfoss/Weatherhead) or rubber company(Conti, Bridgestone, Yokohama), a third party...

They sold Toyo for the price of Michelin - and no, not Costco pricing. Their pricing was closer to Big O.

    Les Schwab, reputable company?

Overpriced but they are known for customer service. They were a proud Oregon institution. The family sold to private equity after Les passed away. His kids didn’t want anything to do with their dad’s business. Around that same time, Discount Tire expanded into Oregon - especially in the...

Dayco timing belt kit. Hope it's ok

High Tack is the GOAT for cut paper gaskets. I never liked gasket shellac. I’ll use 3M weatherstrip adhesive or even contact cement(DAP Weldwood or Pilobond) if I have it laying around. Don’t use RTV on cut gaskets in any case. That’s a rookie/hack mistake. Just adhesive on one side. The...

Dayco timing belt kit. Hope it's ok

Sunsong is doing a lot of brake hose/PS hose even with the OEMs. I wouldn’t be shocked if a Tesla or a Chevy has Sunsong from the factory. A lot of AC refrigerant and power steering hose is Parker - even on Japanese cars. Unless the car was made in Japan, then it’s Yokohama, Nichirin or...

    What good store brand alternator

Here’s a little tidbit - before Valeo, there was Motorola alternators in Peugeots, Renaults and BMWs… and even buses, tractors and big rigs used Motorola alts. Motorola’s automotive electronics became part of Valeo, Continental and Prestolite.

    What good store brand alternator

BBB has almost a monopoly on reman rotating electrical. Pick one with the lowest price and best warranty. Personally, I’ll do a Denso/Bosch reman for cars that had those before a parts store reman. Then, it’s a wash between O’Reilly(Ultima) or AZ(Duralast). Same thing, different box.
