Read my plugs? This is too lean, right?

Understood, I knew ported vacuum was for emissions but the car still has its EGR valve installed and connected so I wasn't sure if manifold vacuum would give too much advance in combination with the EGR.

What are you working on today?

More wrenching today, made even better with 70° dewpoints and 90° ambient temps 🙄 In-laws 2006 Caravan came in for a front motor mount and front struts. Pops showed up with nice Monroe quick struts and Mevotech Supreme links, so no qualms on my end RE: part quality. I ordered the motor mount...

Read my plugs? This is too lean, right?

That's the manual I've been going off of. I'm thinking of using the #1456 rod but leaving the .098 jet in place and trying that setup out with the "silver" metering rod springs that are currently installed. Someone has definitely been inside this carb and tweaked it, however I've already found...

Read my plugs? This is too lean, right?

Vacuum can is working as designed as far as I can tell. I haven't thrown my mighty-vac on it but just using my timing light I can watch the advance change with RPM. I am running ported vacuum for the advance, maybe switching to manifold vacuum will help? At a steady cruise it runs right about...

Read my plugs? This is too lean, right?

Do you think it would take another couple degrees? I'm seeing about 24-25° right now, I don't want to push things on 87 octane. I forgot to mention, economy wise I've got no complaints. It's pulling down 14.5-15 MPG avg. over the last couple tanks.

Read my plugs? This is too lean, right?

~3k miles I have no pinging that I've been able to detect, and that's on 87 octane E0. There's an EVER so slight throttle tip-in hesitation when it's not fully warmed up, but moving the accelerator pump rod from the middle hole to the furthest in may cure that. I'll continue to experiment. My...

Read my plugs? This is too lean, right?

I'm doing my best to learn the world of carburators, so bear with me. These plugs came out of our newly acquired 1979 Cadillac Deville with a freshly rebuilt, bone stock 425 that's fed by an Edelbrock 1406 carb. From what I've read, the 1406 is a 600 CFM "economy" minded carb, which should be...

She's about as confident and competent as they come, but sometimes she needs to be reminded how talented she is!

What are you working on today?

Finished out the afternoon replacing the carb gaskets and installing the new exhaust on the '79. The carb spacer gaskets that were in place were just... Wrong. I ordered a set of Edelbrock gaskets that specifically work with their spread bore to square bore adapter, which made an immediate...

What are you working on today?

It was before we were officially together and I still lived in the Cities. She's VERY independent and I talked her into doing the job herself. It was a good learning experience, and the repair was flawless up till now when the part failed.

What are you working on today?

Started bright and early today with a water pump replacement on our GC. The 2.5ish year old GMB (plastic impeller) started leaking at the shaft seal out of nowhere last weekend; at first the wife thought her installation was at fault (YouTube and I walked her through the first replacement at the...

What are you watching on Netflix?

TBH: we're now 3 episodes out, and already having trouble staying engaged. I think we'll heed your advice and move on.

$50 for keys?! Well, in this case...

Oh, who knows. It's just one of those fun things that goes well with an older car.

$50 for keys?! Well, in this case...

I think it's money we'll spent. Useless accessory aspect aside, I DID need a 2nd set of keys regardless. If I was already going through the trouble, why not do it with some style! Yes... They're gold plated 😎

What are you watching on Netflix?

We've been binge watching "Designated Survivor", a Kiefer Sutherland drama series that originally aired on ABC circa 2017. Fairly typical network-style "political drama" a la "The West Wing". Granted, nothing will ever beat WW as far as political shows goes, but Designated Survivor has proven...

Switched from T-Mobile to US Mobile

That's the best part of USM: you get to choose your network on a per-line basis. If your wife wants to stick with GSM, great! Same cost, same savings, two (soon to be three) networks to choose from.

Switched from T-Mobile to US Mobile

If you're really worried about priority data, stick with Warp on USM. T-Mobile GSM service through them will be deprioritized in major areas, it worked fine out here in western WI where there isn't many people but when I travelled to Salt Lake City recently I had a lot of trouble getting solid...

What are you working on today?

I put our WJ in the air for a tire rotation and installation of front shocks to match the rear set I installed 5k miles ago. I should have done them sooner, but life happens. I'm glad I ordered them when I did, it looks like Gabriel discontinued the Ultra Truck line. I ended up finding one brand...

    The she-shed has arrived!

Dirt work was completed Wednesday evening, and the delivery driver called this afternoon to do the drop. Both did an amazing job, the pad is perfectly level with just the right slope. The shed is a pre-fab 10' x 24' with twin 6' deep lofts inside. Barn doors on the north and east sides along...
