What are you working on today?

Productive day, today: my Copart Seville got a fresh set of 41-950 plugs to replace the 30 year old, factory-installed 41-929's. Along with the plugs, I threw on a set of wholesale closeout Prestolite plug wires that cost me a whopping $8.42. The box had a Honeywell copyright date of 2003, so...

VCX Nano for GM - $75

Used once to program a radio in my Regal and worked perfectly. If you have any need to program GM vehicles, this is the tool for you. Asking $75 shipped to the lower 48. Thanks everyone!

What are you working on today?

Creeping up on 2k uneventful miles on my Copart Seville, and since it's been drop dead reliable I figured why not splurge on some upgraded sound. Picked up a refurbished Kenwood eXcelon DMX-709S from Amazon along with a Metra integration harness and dash kit. I wanted something with 4 or 5V...

Amsoil Multi-Vehicle ATF? ATF+4? Debate settled?!

You won't find any, at least not in my experience. We used a MV ATF at my old shop to service 95% of all vehicles, only ordering specific fluid for applications such as Honda DW-1, CVT's, ZF boxes, and maybe a couple other outliers. I can say for sure that every single Mopar vehicle (minus...

    Check charging system light

Sounds like a failing ELD. Lots of issues with those on 9th Gen Civic's. Looks like there's a forum member on a different site that sells a bypass, might be worth looking into.

What is the rarest or strangest, unusual engine you have owned?

Toyota 4A-GZE. Had one in a swapped '96 Corolla and it was a riot. The OEM supercharger was clutched like an A/C compressor and only engaged when needed. Combined with an underdrive crank pulley to up the boost, the thing went like stink. The only other "odd" engine I've owned was a 4.0...

    Kevin Lacey has passed.

Always liked him the best on "Airplane Repo", silly as the show itself may have been. RIP Kevin.

What are you working on today?

Put together a deal to sell my Regal. Bittersweet seeing it go, but I had to make room after bringing home the Seville and it made the most sense to let go of the car that sits the most. Had it almost 2 years and sold for $1k less than I paid for it. I probably could have gotten more had I...

PhD in 4th gen Odyssey alternator swaps...

Not much you can do with a cheap reman... I used Denso alternators exclusively and never had an issue. Were either of them oil soaked? Valve cover/VTEC leaks will ruin any alternator in short order.

    Best Halogen Headlight Bulb?

I've been impressed with the Vosla +120's. Put a set of H4's in our Kia, and just installed 9005/9006's in my new-to-me Cadillac.

Weighed my ford flex on the scales.

About 100 lbs lighter than my '79 Sedan!

    Heated windshield: A Midwesterner's dream!

No heated throttle body on mine, so I'm good there! I'll likely be doing a coolant spill-n-fill this spring, but what's in it looks very clean. It also appears to have a new(er) water pump and belt, plus the Carfax shows it had a coolant service not 5k miles ago. Even better, it was the last...

    Heated windshield: A Midwesterner's dream!

So far, so good. This is my 5th Northstar-equipped car and I've never had any major issues with any of them. Prior to this, I owned: 1994 Seville STS Z-rated 1996 Olds Aurora 1999 Seville STS 2003 Seville STS Sport And now the current '95. This one is by far the lowest mileage of any of those...

    Heated windshield: A Midwesterner's dream!

My windshield has that very same "bronze" look to it. Another neat "by-product" of the metallic film is that it supposedly rejects a ton of IR heat, which has kept the dashboard from warping as it common on this generation Seville. As to your question: it's got just over 68k miles on it. I...

    Heated windshield: A Midwesterner's dream!

Anyone else here owned a car with a heated windshield? Not the grid for the wipers, the entire glass. My new-to-me 1995 Cadillac Seville is the first vehicle I've owned with this feature, and now that's we're getting some snow I've been able to test it out. For those who don't know: the...

    New tool thread

That's hilarious, I actually gave away my Northstar wp socket when I left the shop, I let my "protege" have it. I figured he had a lot better shot at using it again than I did, I think I used it twice in 15 years. Then again... I wasn't planning on playing Russian Roulette with another one, yet...

What are you working on today?

I couldn't agree more... unfortunately I no longer have access to a tire machine otherwise I'd be doing them myself just like any other repair. Deere just has a little manual changer for doing tubes, otherwise everything is sub'd out. Luckily for me, my local WM tire center actually does very...

What are you working on today?

So far I've put ~150 miles on my newly-acquired 68k-mile Copart 1995 Cadillac Seville so far, and other than a nagging CEL that I need to chase down this spring the car runs absolutely flawlessly. Now that I know she's a keeper, I went ahead and knocked out as much maintenance as I could while...

    Calling GON: am I crazy?

UPDATE: She made it home on her own. The loader brought it out stone dead (of course) with 1 flat and 3 low tires, but it fired up on it's own after some charging time off our Jeep. I pumped the tires up with my little Ryobi inflator just enough to get me the 2 blocks to a proper gas station...
