    Two HPL EC30 tests

HPL people have said the PCMO is a better cleaner than the EC versions. EC was designed to clean more gently than their multigrade oil. I would have not used the EC at all, and just used the PCMO.

    HPL 5w-30 PCMO Excess Fuel

Does this vehicle have an oil temp gauge, or way to monitor oil temps? I'd want to make sure the oil is getting up in the low 200's when cruising on the highway. Although fuel isn't water, I'd think a higher oil temp would somewhat help the fuel in the oil to evaporate, similar to how higher oil...

    Oil for Rav 4

As in the title of one of Shakespeare's plays: Much ado about nothing. I had that engine in a 2018 Camry, ran 0w-16 when Toyota did the first oil changes, and ran 0w20 when I did them. When going 10,000 miles between changes (which I didn't do all the time...sometimes I changed at about 5000...

It's Blackstone...they don't do a gas chromatograph technique for fuel...so they are just guessing.

Is Mobil 1 SUPERCAR developed by Corvette and Mobil the best now for a 4 stroke engine?

HPL is High Performance Lubricants. They blend their own products. A 5w50 uses Viscosity Index Improvers and may also use Pour Point Depressants. Neither VII's nor PPD's are lubricants in the same way that the base oil is a lubricant. Also, neither VII's nor PPD's are detergents, nor...

    2020 Acura RDX, Valvoline 5-30 R&P, 4500 miles

If trying to measure fuel dilution, wouldn't "drive it around the block" prior to a UOA sample. That's a cold engine running rich...which is one of the big reasons for fuel dilution. I'd prefer to get a sample after a highway run, hot, THEN change the oil. Second choice would be cold and let it...

    PP Euro 0w-30

I used the Pennzoil Euro LX 0w30 in one of my B48 engines (a JCW Countryman) and did a UOA on it. Seemed to hold up perfectly fine for 5000 miles....probably would have been good for another 5K.

Easy way to find out is to change the filter. I'd be willing to bet it won't help.

    suburu 0w-16 engine oil

2024 Forester gauge reads just over 200 usually after it's good and warm, unless on the highway at higher speeds. At 70 +/- mph in the summer, I see it hit 217 F. I have no idea how accurate it is.

Isn't Silicon used as an anti-foaming agent? Perhaps this is simply a characteristic of the oil itself. I'm sure there is a VOA on that oil on this site that could be checked.

    Oil Life Monitor ??

In 2014 K24 engines, the Honda OLM worked fine...over 128,000 miles on ours...replaced the Valve Cover gasket at 120,000-something and the valvetrain looked great (photo has been shared several times on this site...don't want to take up any more server space posting it again). Don't know about...

Honda K24 following the Maintenance Minder at about 120,000 miles. Something other than 10,000 mile OCI's contributed to that discoloration.

Valve Cover Photos - 2016 Acura RDX w/161,000 miles

I'm not the OP, but this question about "ticking" comes up a lot. My understanding is that noisy valves are perhaps too loose...which isn't harmful in itself. But the Too-Tight Valves are QUIET...and those clearances should be loosened. The reason is, too tight means they may not be seating...

5w20 instead of 0w20 in downstate NY winter

0w20's often have a better quality base oil than the 5w20's, and 0w20's often have a higher HTHS value. Those would be my only concerns...not the difference in ability to flow at temps lower than -35 F.

    2023 Mazda 3 2.5T HPL PCEO 5W-30 10,000 miles

Most likely they get a better price on the 5w20 than the 0w20. The thing is, many 0w20's use a higher base stock and is oftentimes slightly higher in the HTHS range, as well as perhaps having a better performing additive pack. And yet, there aren't a lot of failed engines due to this practice!
