How sure are you that it does not have any exhaust leak? Have you run a smoke machine? To me it sounds like a timing component or maybe exhaust

How many miles on the engine? Has it done this since new? I dont know anything about these engines, but it sounds a lot like a Ford with a bad cam phaser.

pull the plug where you had the bad coil before, see if it looks normal.

Bought 6 new plugs and 2 coils for the Flex, she is running great but has the tiniest miss at coasting speeds. Hope to get them installed this weekend. Cannot remember if I have ever changed the plugs, bought the car in 2013 with 45k miles, she now has 141k.
