2016 Land Rover diesel? Motor oil selection

Thats the trouble with a lot of Land Rover owners. They carnt see past the LR spec oils. Too many people on the LR forums post saying “ only use the correct approved oil or your engine will grenade when in fact there are so many better options on the market. To me, an engine that makes as much...

2016 Land Rover diesel? Motor oil selection

I run my 3.0 TDV6 on VAG 502 5w40. It’s Audi branded oil that in the UK is Shell. Has a HTHS of 3.6 so only slightly higher than a 504/507 oil. I feel happier running a “thicker” oil but we will see how it helps the bearings as the engine already had over 90,000 miles on it with its first owner...

    Tesla/EV on track

Having owned a mk7.5 GTI I just expected more interior noise. The GTI does have a soundactor at the base of the winscremen though which does give you a lot of fake noise

Why haven’t we seen many diesel PHEVs?

Land Rover made a Range Rover and Sport with a diesel hybrid, came out in 2014 I think. https://www.greencarguide.co.uk/car-reviews-and-road-tests/range-rover-sport-hybrid-green-car-review/

It’s hardly groundbreaking technology in this day and age. Regardless of price, It’s ugly as sin.

Did I pull a GON, buying this Mercedes S-class?

Your right. Everyone noticed it, but not everyone is looking at it thinking it looks nice. Personally I like aftermarket wheels, get some that suit the car, in a nice fitment and you can improve the visual appeal of the vehicle. I think this has been missed like a baby trying to hit a target...

I’d have to take those wheels off. Just too big for me.

I’ve already told you the reason for this. It’s emissions. Nothing more.

when there is no vw 508…

I am happy to put my money where my mouth is on the vehicles I own. Im currently running 502 in a LR 3.0 TDV6, 504/507 in two different Ingenium evoque’s and 504/507 in a BMW M57. You definitely seem to have an opinion that a manufacturer oil spec is the only spec that should be used judging...

when there is no vw 508…

You’re never going to have an oil related failure on an engine that has 508/509 specifications if you maintain correct oil level, change frequency and use any of the current VAG specifications. It’s just not going to happen!

when there is no vw 508…

I was looking at it today so I know what it says. Literally lists all current oils bar 511.

From a dealer’s perspective ETKA tells you to follow the maintenance table specification. If you check ETKA for a 1.5 TFSI DADA it will give you 502,504,507,508,509 It even lists a 502 0w30 for Russian use.

That tractor engine can make more horsepower per litre than the v10 so there you go. You clearly want to push your point of view but won’t listen to others.

when there is no vw 508…

Just to kinda throw it out there. If Audi and Porsche thought that 508/509 could protect as well as a 504/507 or 511 oil then they would be using it in cars like the RSQ8, R8 V10+ and RS5 They have chosen when developing the later variants of these engines or in some cases the performance...

It's time to play "What oil for"... 2011 Land Rover RR w/ 5.0 NA motor

Designed by Jaguar and manufactured by Ford, then by JLR after 2020 If JLR had wanted Ford’s 5.0 V8 they could have had it however at the time the Jaguar developed engine was preferred. The idea being a modular platform that could be used as a v6, v8 and with and without supercharger would...
