Tacoma 2.7 2019 timing chain tension

It's probably just a dud. Sounds like you are on the right path replacing it and moving on. I'd hate to have a car without VVT, an excellent addition to the ICE IMO.

CarPro PERL on 2012 Honda Accord interior

Looks good! How many miles on your Accord now?

Reminder to inspect oil bottles when buying at walmart.

Well dang if you are going to return your used oil at least pick up the good stuff ;)

Ford 8F35 transmission anyone have problems?

Records are of immense value to me. Maybe the vast majority of the public doesn't care, but for a buyer like myself I would pay extra knowing the vehicle was meticulously maintained.

Idle stop and go systems. Do you like it?

It’s fine. The system in our Jetta works well. We turn it off most times though as it does increase wear. Will we see that wear during our ownership? I don’t know. Also of note, Florida summers are brutal and even seconds of no AC at a stoplight is too much on many days.

Buick's new logo. Yay or nay?

    Better, but not great.

Do you care if a vehicle's hood has a prop rod?

Struts are nice until they fail. Honestly, I’d prefer them to have both so you have a back up!

Moving to Florida and UV damage

Not hot like AZ but certainly very hot and generally very sunny. Unless the car was going to be sitting for months on end I’d probably not cover it. Even if put on a completely clean car dirt and debris will be blown in from underneath and cause marring. Keeping it washed and “protected” with...

    Long term oil changes

It has the I4 (K24). I've owned it for 8 years and have used it on the same commute the entire time, that is 1 mile 4 times a day. It is used primarily for short trips and doesn't often reach full operating temperature. It wasn't until I started pushing 1 year OCI's that the valve train...

Share Your Oil Consumption if Any

2012 Accord 2.4 and 2021 Jetta 1.4 TSI. Both use about 1/8 quart every 4-5k depending on usage.

Bought a '23 Sonata SE / traded in Accent

Congrats! Interesting design but it has grown on me in certain trims. Hopefully they have the engine issues worked out, but I'm not convinced. That may be a non concern for you though. Enjoy!

2021 VW Jetta engine bay cleaning

Good to know. I don’t want to discolor anything or make it shiny. Which is why I generally use a very mild product.

2021 VW Jetta engine bay cleaning

Not sure I need it, interesting item though. The dealer always insists on topping it off even though we never use it. They do a good job of overfilling and making a mess though. Along with overfilling coolant.

2021 VW Jetta engine bay cleaning

I might use it once a year. If the windshield is dirty I wash it properly.

2021 VW Jetta engine bay cleaning

This was my first time cleaning the engine bay on my wife’s Jetta. We have owned it 1 year and 6 months (since new) so it had a fair amount of dust / dirt on it. I like to clean our engine bays periodically as it is easier to keep them clean / maintained vs waiting 5+ years where you have to...

    Long term oil changes

I can tell you that extending my oil change to a year in my Accord did not work out but it sees primarily sort trips. For that type of use I now max out at 5K/6mo.
