    Kirkland/K&N 0w-20, 15.2k mi; 2016 Mazda 3 2.0 w/123k mi

Kirkland and those types of oils really struggle in severe service/extended service. As mentioned luckily that engine typically is easy on oil and did well.

    which 5w-30?

    2025 Toyota Rav4 engine oil update, 5w-30

The tolerances are to tight in the electric oil pump for US warranty purposes.

Switching from 0w-20 to 0w-30 experience

Less valvetrain noise for sure. I didn’t even keep 0W-20 in long enough to check fuel economy. 😂

Carquest Premium 84502 order - China & Vietnam

I’ve used both versions with absolutely no problems. Both looked great in my C&P’s.

    Microgard Select - No Love?

Yes. PGI made filters and Pentius filters have the most consistent quality currently. Very very rarely do I see problems.

    Microgard Select - No Love?

True. I should have worded it as “I’ve seen metal shavings from thread cutting on many different filters over the years.”

    Microgard Select - No Love?

Surface rust on unpainted crimp is a non issue. Metal shavings would be from the threads. Inspection before installation is a must on every brand.

    Purolator 20k C&P

Recently they changed from M+H made with all kinds of problems, to Highline Warren acting as a middle man from factories in Vietnam and S Korea. Very similar to PGI and Pentius filters.

    New M1 Oil Filters

I wasn’t the one that called. But I did see the old M+H version in the gold boxes.

Mopar warranty issues w/ 0w-40 non FCA MS-12633 certification

Pics of engine internals will please the arbitrators over all else. Only the scummiest of scumbag dealers would try to blame the oil with spotless internals. Arbitrators won’t fall for it.

    New M1 Oil Filters

Highline Warren says 99%@20 by phone. Waiting for boxes to update. Still the old M+H numbers currently.

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

As you know from many UOA’s posted here it’s not uncommon to drop a grade. So a car that specs a 20 grade could come back showing a 16 grade. A much bigger concern than going up a grade or two. Having worked at a dealer for 12 years UOA’s were used to find contaminants like glycol. A VOA is the...

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

It’s going to be a couple years to know for sure. It took 60k miles to develop the oil consumption, I’m 10k miles in with ESP. Currently consumption is continuing to improve. Down to 1/2 qt in 5k miles.
