Preferred Break-In Method for new vehicle

Thank you. I did a lot of vacuum engine braking on all of my drives. Wow you took it to redline really quick, nice to hear of your positive experience with that method. I may be dumping the factory oil around 1000-1500 kilometers est, not 100% sure yet.

Preferred Break-In Method for new vehicle

I have about 550 kms on the car now - 350 miles est. Today's drive I did some heavier throttle applications from 3000-5000 rpms in higher gears. Towards the end of today's drive I did some light load rpm sweeps up to 6000 & 6500 rpms. Max rpm on this car is 7500 rpms and I still have...

In Light Driving Conditions Would You Notice Difference in 5w-20 vs 0w-30 - Subaru BRZ

Thank you, yeah this car will only see light use, and no track time at all, pretty easy driving and only 3 seasons of the year. Thanks fo rthe reply.

In Light Driving Conditions Would You Notice Difference in 5w-20 vs 0w-30 - Subaru BRZ

I picked up a supply of Amsoil 5w20 SS as a store is going out of business in my region and they had it on sale at 25% off, I picked up enough for two oil changes. I have just been wondering if I could mix in a quart or two of Amsoil 5w30 as a small boost to viscosity , they should be pretty...

How Long Does Typical Engine Break-in Really Last ? - for maximum power

^ I've said it a few times over the years, people who actively participate on an oil forum like this are all looking for the fountain of youth for their vehicles. We all want our cars to stay brand new forever , and somewhere in our brains we think there is an elixir out there that will...

How Long Does Typical Engine Break-in Really Last ? - for maximum power

People take care of their vehicles as they cost so much these days, and manufacturer warranties are not as good as people think, some BRZ /GR86 owners get denied warranty coverage for failed engines , so you have to be careful.

How Long Does Typical Engine Break-in Really Last ? - for maximum power

Here I am worrying about when I can take my 7500 rpm engine beyond 4000 rpms, lol :) then I see these guys on the bikes, wow.

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

I could probably get a second drain plug that would fit the fill hole, they look to be the same size and threads. As long as the magnet doesn't interfere with any moving parts, it is about 1.5 inches long est ? I recall doing that on my Honda S2000. Will do on the pictures at the next...

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

That is good information, thanks for sharing it makes me feel better about my choice. It sounds like the bounce up to 75w85 was to reduce wear but still pushing the envelope on fuel economy. Glad I went with 75w90. I have found it hard to figure out what fluids dealers are using on...

    2000 4Runner needing injectors for 3rd time

maybe there is a load of sediment in the fuel tank ? who knows how others fueled it. The truck looks real good, nice condition overall body and frame.

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

Thanks, yeah my application will be pretty easy driving for the most part. As I noted the sump capacity is pretty small so it may not make a difference in terms of efficiency either way ? The car has a large magnet on the drain bolt, it captures a lot of paste, no magnet on the fill bolt.

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

Hopefully you were able to avoid some of those crazy expensive Toyota fluids, I can't believe the price of some of them for diffs, trannies, and transfer cases, eeeek

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

Thank you, I am also thinking with such a small sump size the overall effect on mechanical drivetrain losses is likely pretty small once everything is up to temp. It takes a very small amount of fluid.

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

Thank you . As this car is shared with Toyota I came across some Toyota gear fluids that were crazy expensive, Thankfully I don't have to use them :)

Rear Differential 75w85 vs 75w90 - Any Benefit Either Way

I just installed Redline 75w90 GL5 in the rear differential of my Subaru BRZ (torsen LSD), this fluid was easy to get quickly and Redline seems to have a good reputation for all gear oil, I was also super happy with their MT-LV in the manual tranny which worked extremely well. The...

In Light Driving Conditions Would You Notice Difference in 5w-20 vs 0w-30 - Subaru BRZ

My other two vehicles use 0w-20 motor oil (VW and Ford Escape). I definitely notice that the cold start up sound is very different compared to past vehicles that used 30 weight oils (in cold winter months). There certainly is a time and place for 20 weights in our region .

Anyone else never own an oil burning vehicle?

All of my newer vehicles never burned oil - Hondas, Subaru (several) , Mitsubishi, Ford, VW. I was a huge Honda fan starting in 1991, they all burned oil right up to 2004, after 2004 their engine building processes seemed to change and oil consumption dropped significantly. I know...

In Light Driving Conditions Would You Notice Difference in 5w-20 vs 0w-30 - Subaru BRZ

I found some additional Amsoil 5w20 on sale this weekend at an outlet of a hardware store that is going out of business. I could not resist the opportunity to get it at a discount. I now have 14 quarts of this oil in total, that is enough for two oil changes, and a couple spare quarts for...

Newer engine longevity designs are in question in this video, is he right?

There has always been the conspiracy theory that cars are designed to self-destruct at a certain age - planned obsolescence. The bread and butter auto manufacturers surely don't expect their cars to last forever, certainly not more than 10 years. Some smaller car builders of the past took...

How Long Does Typical Engine Break-in Really Last ? - for maximum power

You know the car jockeys hammer them for sure, from the auto plants to the transport trucks, and then the dealers. My new Subaru BRZ had 10 kms on it when I picked it up at the dealer, a similar model that was also at the dealer had 280 kms on it, I made sure to buy the one with 10 kms.
