Talk to me about oil catch cans and intake valve deposits

I have never scoped the valves of my Honda 2.4 L na engine. That said, everything else I'm doing re intake valve mitigation is a best as I could shot in the dark. I run PUP and change it asap after the mm drops to 20 %. PUP is a very now NOAC oil. Honda engines and most others are designed to...

    guys over 50 doing maintenance

70 the end of this month. Last week I went to one of my brother's house to help him with a back brakes job on their 2017 Malibu. He also wanted to flush the brake fluid. He did most of the work. We got the brakes done, and it was getting cold around 5 PM with the door to his unhealed garage open...

    Old window sticker I found

Rember the size of the interior and trunk of those 70's Fury's. 4 guys could hide in a trunk going into a drive-in movie.

Tool box/kit enclosure for air travel (will be checked, not carry on)

I use Samsung smart things because my phone is an android based Samsung A53 5G reconditioned. There is an online Samsung smart things site on the internet, and with log on info I can log on from anywhere with anything that can access the internet and see the location of my smart things and also...

Tool box/kit enclosure for air travel (will be checked, not carry on)

As to tracking, last year I watched a news clip about apple air tags will be linked to airports specifically for tracking luggage. It might be world-wide by now. Look into it. And if it works, rember to change the battery in them often. Just did a quick search, 18 airlines now allow you to...

Favorite Aviation Movies-No Highway in the Sky

There was a very realistic TV series called 12 O'Clock High. My dad was in the US Army Air Core and trained on several bombers as a bombadier and all other positions except pilot or co-pilot ( he did not have good visual depth perception ). He was in training on B29's when WWII ended, so he...

Favorite Aviation Movies-No Highway in the Sky

The original Flight of the Phoenix. But it's a shame a good pilot actually died, and did so because additional un-nedded footage was shot of it actually flying. I heard that he flew it and successfully landed it and they had enough footage to go with, but decided on sending him back up for extra...

What Standby Generator are you buying for your house?

If I had that kind of money there would be a power-house within the walled in property with multiple generators each with different fuel sources, each fire protected from the others, fire suppression systems, lightning protection, and security. And it all would be far from the main dwellings. I...

What is something you learned about your car after you owned it?

I had no idea about my 2016 CRV EX has a Sport mode "S" on the transmission mode selector, and no idea of what a hoot is to use when the vehicle is all warmed up and open roads are available. Sport mode makes the CVT keep the engine revs higher, the gas peddle becomes more responsive, and the...

Which Oil Drain Valve do you use? Fumuto? Valvomax?

Fumoto with 90 angle and hose connection. It was a difficult instal on my 2016 CRV 2.4 L. I had to grind off a corner of an exhaust flange so I could rotate the valve as it threaded in. And the direction the drain lever ends up pointing is tied to how the threads happen to cause the final...

Are these manufacturers getting sneaky with part numbers?

One company I worked for made an electronic field interface unit ( controler ). It contained a microprocessor board with memory, a communications board, 2 boards to work together to work as a very good a to d that could pull small signals like the voltage from a thermocouple out of large...

Miata Meets Uncle Rodney - A 2.5L Swap Story

If it were mine I would have first checked if a Honda K24 would fit. It's likely a better engine in all categories. And also likley also plentiful and low cost. Honda made a heck of a lot of them and they last. So there's little demand for them and likley plenty of used ones.

    TBM-700 crash in Anoka MN

If I remember correctly, the aviation book " Fate is the Hunter " has a sentence that mentions being the tip of the arrow. While all aspects of that crash are terrible, and it would be terrible for anyone to be sitting in that seat. Maybe the pilots family should know that dying during an...

Advice on what to do about a technician who stripped my spark plugs into the head

The head has to come off to properly do an insert. Otherwise shavings will get into the cylinder and destroy the engine. Scratched cylinders are not repairable. No matter how much grease is used to try to catch shavings if done on the engine, some will get into the cylinders. Usually a lot...

Best oil for Alusil cylinder lining?

Also keep in mind that clean fuel injectors make fuel into fine mist that burns well. Dirty fuel injectors make big drops of fuel that don't burn well, and allow some fuel to get past the pistons and into the oil, and fuel in oil reduces how well the oil protects the engine. Bottom line, clean...

Most PEA Bang For Your Buck

If the thermostat is stuck open, the engine may run too cold often and that destroys fuel economy. A bad engine sensor can also reduce mpg's. Dirty air sensors, or bad O2 sensor. I wonder what an identical vehicle in similar driving gets? Also, you might do compression tests.

Valvoline R&P, Honda K24, 250k miles, report on progress

Try a 2016 in Sport mode with the engine fully warmed up. It might help that I keep the injectors clean by using Red-Line SI - 1 in the fuel, and PUP 0W - 20, and I have changed the CVT fluid 4 times with Honda fluid ( I know, overkill ) and rear end fluid twice, cleaned intake air sensors, new...

Valvoline R&P, Honda K24, 250k miles, report on progress

My well maintained, barely broken in, K24W in my 2016 CRV EX just reached 43,000 miles and it's on its 5th OC of PUP. At 4,800 per year it's going to be a while before it gets into the high mileage club. It's nice to know that it has plenty of life left in it. It idles smooth, but fully warmed...
