Do any manufacturers still use break in oil?

Where does bmw come up with this mythical 1200 mile rule. Only thing I can say is they seen many failure rates at or around that mileage that they are doing this. Wouldn’t leave me feeling fuzzy all over. 1st off I wouldn’t be romping on the vehicle for the first 1000-1500 miles all GM says is...

Do any manufacturers still use break in oil?

So what bmw looks over the vehicle at 1200 miles this doesn’t mean fluids are getting changed out. Toyota recommends a 5k service to look over a new vehicle but oil isn’t changed till 10k.

For GM. That’s just dumb on their part. If EPA bucks is what they were after out the gate with a 0w20 they should have left room that a 30 grade would be more than enough lubricity. I see it all the time posted here Toyota runs 0w16 but across the globe they’re saying the engine will take a...

Do any manufacturers still use break in oil?

No. They would be telling customers first service do at 500 miles vs 5, 7500 or 10k. There’s no need in modern engineering and manufacturing. Assembly lube may be found in the first few oil analyses. But break in oil nah I ain’t sold on it.
