EPA possibly goes after the Start/Stop System!

A whole generation of vehicles, mostly full size trucks and Honda V6's, were ruined with cylinder deactivation. The EPA should eliminate that, and the ethanol blend requirement. Those two alone are far more impactful than stop-start.

Has anyone seen an engine that was ruined by start-stop? All the failed engines I've seen torn down (mostly online, but some in the dealership) got their death sentence another way. I had to change some starter motors and some crowns, but (especially the crowns/flywheels) not on start-stop cars.

Let's be clear. Can you move your foot from the brake to the gas peddle before the motor starts? If so- what vehicle?
I don't usually drive our 2016 Honda Pilot Touring, but I tried it this morning. I can easily move my foot from the brake to the gas pedal before the engine starts.

I was at a red traffic light in my manual transmission 2018 Subaru Forester. Next to me was a 2020 ish subaru forester with stop start. Just before our light turned green I began to shift to 1st. As the light turned green I began accelerating. The stop start 2020 ish forester had started and was already rolling while I was still engaging the clutch and gas.

It's the only vehicle on the market that you can do this too...if you are indeed correct. And you are not going to do this in a usual "moments fashion". I guess IT MAY BE POSSIBLE if for some reason you extremely quickly move from one peddle to another. But in normal "everyday driving mode" you wouldn't do this.
So-I guess "easily" is open to interpretation.

This is the Internet-there is always exceptions-whether it's provable or not.

What is your experience that allows you to proclaim this is the "only vehicle on the market that you can do this too [sic]"? You have apparently driven all stop-start vehicles ever produced and timed how long they take to start?

If you can't move your foot quickly between the pedals, you probably shouldn't be driving!

Yes-I have driven many- not all. As I said -you can't do this under normal driving. And if your vehicle can do this under normal human reflexes-it is an outlier-all though I have my doubts.

List them and the measured restart times.

How long does it really take you to switch your foot from one pedal to the other?

A few bits of toothpick...problem solved!

2025 Rams have what I would call poor hotel load management. And, I feel, AGM batteries don't handle cold weather, and sitting on a car lot for extended time very well. Quite a problem with no starts. You can boost the AGM main battery, but it won't start. You have to boost the stop start AGM battery, get it to go. Mechanics told me the batteries are setup in series. Weakest link dies first, which is the 200 CCA stop start battery.
The good thing is the 2 batteries are easy to service.
Tried to help someone jump their Cherokee and was confused by the dual battery system. This vehicle had it under the passenger seat ... not a fun job to swap out.

me neither. alot of the systems are smartt enough NOT to shut the engine down until it's warm so the cold start wear is that of a normal vehicle anyways
I really like the start/stop system on my 2022 Ford Ranger. I think they’ve done a good job with the software/programming of how the system works.
