Is my car a short tripper?

As per most OEM documents, the definition of serve service is operating the vehicle in: Dusty conditions City driving Excessive idling (deliveries, police, etc) Below freezing temperature Most trips with less than 15-30 mins spent at engine operating temperature Towing Hauling

    2GR-FKS 0w-20 or 5w-30?

Please do post UOA's, I feel like we're lacking a database here for Tacoma's. I'm presently running a test on my own truck between different differential and transfer case lubes. My last drain of the three is in the UOA section Highly recommend a tune, it will be a brand new truck. I've been...

    2GR-FKS 0w-20 or 5w-30?

240,xxx KMS and it's a 2021 Tacoma with the big 3.5 I've had everything from 0w-16 to 0w-40 in it.

    2GR-FKS 0w-20 or 5w-30?

I personally run 5w30 in the summer and 0w-30 in the winter which sees down to -40*C and colder without the wind. 0w-30 year round is fine even

How much movement is still normal for a good front wheel bearing?

Thats interesting and I believe you because I figured that with me primarily driving on the highway in the winter, there wouldn't be the same thermal expansion as a taxi in NYC. On my personal vehicles I used to tighten the nut just until I had no movement. I thought that was improper though why...

How much movement is still normal for a good front wheel bearing?

I also want to point out that typically for automotive non drive axles, they spec a little bit of play in taper wheel bearings so that as the assembly heats up from driving and braking, the play will be taken up by thermal expansion. That said if i have to give a number in absence of the...

2021 Tacoma 6MT, Rear differential (non-locking) 75w-90 Amsoil Severe gear UOA ~80k Kms of use

Will do. I figured 4L of oil capacity in there would handle what I could throw at the truck work wise, next fluid change I'll up the viscosity a grade and see where that gets me

2021 Tacoma 6MT, Rear differential (non-locking) 75w-90 Amsoil Severe gear UOA ~80k Kms of use

Out of curiousity, whats the thoughts on the Iron level guys? Just asking because I was cruising the forum comparing to other reports (different vehicles mine you) and mine seems quite high. Maybe I should of went up instead of down in viscosity 😅

2021 Tacoma 6MT, Rear differential (non-locking) 75w-90 Amsoil Severe gear UOA ~80k Kms of use

Interesting, not like i'm a tribologist but I wonder what they changed and why

2021 Tacoma 6MT Transfer Case (VF2CM), Amsoil Syncromesh ~80K Kms UOA

No, Redline MT-LV is also a direct equivalent. Syncromesh fluids are close but technically a little thicker. Still thinner than the 75w-90 that most (dealer) people use. Truthfully this transfer case is very forgiving fluid wise

2021 Tacoma 6MT Transfer Case (VF2CM), Amsoil Syncromesh ~80K Kms UOA

This is my second consecutive fill with Syncromesh. Before that I was running Redline MT-LV. I change the fluid about every 80'000kms. My main reason for doing a uoa now is because I've switched to Amsoil DCT and I want to see how that affects things. I tow and haul over 50% of the trucks...

2021 Tacoma 6MT Front Differential, Amsoil 75w-90 SVG ~80k Kms UOA

I've been running 75w-90 SVG since the truck's had about 10'000kms when I did my first drive line fluid change. I change the fluid about every 80'000kms. My main reason so starting now is because I've switched to Amsoil 75w-85 and I want to see how that affects things. I tow and haul over 50%...

What makes certain spark plugs not work in certain engines?

This is most likely the case. I experienced the same issue with different plug brands not working in some vehicles but great in others. A plug can fit and have the same "specs/range" but there are differences beyond visual. For example, internal resistance on some plugs is via a resistor where...

GM 5.3 liter V8/6.2 liter burning oil

So I left the dealership end of 2020 and I recall these engines having a couple oil burning sources. Upon initial release it was the piston rings/pistons "being improperly sized for the engine" I interpret that as low tension rings being too low tension. This has been rectified on affected...

Who is using ATF in your power steering system?

Im running Pentosin CHF 202 in my 2021 Tacoma that specs Dex 3 and have been for over 200'000kms Long story short, I have tons left over from my time at GM replacing lines and changing fluid under warranty. It was $66/Litre locally back in 2021. When I run out I'll most likely go to ATF unless...

Thats also most likely a no-no. Warranty parts have to be returned intact

    Check charging system light

I would also suggest scanning for codes, that may lead you in the proper direction. If thats not possible then you'll have to check the charging system when the fault is active. Most likely it's the alternator but it could also be the wiring of the power circuit or of the field coil circuit too.

If thick oil offers more protection, then isn't cold oil best?

I agree there are alot of missing links in the story and I honestly don't know the answer to any of the questions aside from previously 5W-20 was ran in the engine unless the owners son(my coworker) did the oil change. At which point he would run 5w-30 unless his old man was planning to tow. He...
