    Valvoline Restore and protect question

I recall reading a thread by Rhondahonda (sp?) about that... they said that consumption didn't drop much until the 4th OCI with it. I was going to stop after 2 OCIs, but I think I'll keep my highlander on 4 and see what impact it has. The first OCI with VRP 5w30 had the same consumption as...

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

Interesting point there. If I have all my files backed up to the cloud, then I can just keep using this same old hard drive until it fails. I have some of the files only backed up to the external hard drive, and some of them backed up to the cloud and to the external drive. If I were to back...

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

My online backup would count as that second location. I agree with having two backups, not just one.

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

Interesting. This disk is at 224 hours. Not 224K, just plain ol' vanilla 224. So it might have some life left.

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

I have online backup too. I just use a cheap external hdd as a second, more easily accessible recovery device.

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

There are a lot of parameters in the report---any in particular that you'd like me to give here?

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

I just ran crystal disk info on it; the health status is Good.

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

Fair enough on specific lines. Now when you say you wouldn't rely on that drive in question (in an earlier comment you made), do you mean my 5 1/2 year old backup drive?

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

I realize that SSDs are faster. My point isn't about one that has your programs or your OS. This is simply an external drive in a case, that I can plug into a USB port once a month for backups. I agree SSDs are superior for a daily driver.

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

I just looked at a backblaze study for 2024; WD had the lowest percentage of hdd failures by far, compared to their Seagate, HGST, & Toshiba drives. I looked at their studies before getting my last WD external hdd, and for this next purchase too, I'll get WD. Now when you say you wouldn't rely...

    Hard drive failures--time or useage?

I have a backup external hdd that is over 90% full (160 gigs of space left of 2 tb). It is a Western Digital. I don't know when it was made, but as soon as I bought it, I put folders & data on it. The folders were created in January 2020. So it is at least 5 1/2 years old, and has been used that...

    Traded in 2022 Highlander-for 2022 Volvo XC60

Congrats on the nice purchase. My dad bought two Volvos, I think both very newish. Loved them both. He'd probably be still driving the last one if it wasn't crashed & totaled.

    Non-slip sandals and shoes

Quite possibly true. However, I did look at my sandals and they had very little tread (on some spots there was no tread at all). So I think I'm going to do what I can to prevent this in the future. One thing I've noticed as I've gotten older is that healing time has increased.

    Non-slip sandals and shoes

I have some walking shoes that do fine for me. What I'm really interested in getting replacements for, are sandals & what I've termed "semi-formal dress shoes."

    Non-slip sandals and shoes

Recently I slipped on a pile of what looked like mayonnaise on the ground. Urgent care says no hip fracture, which is good. At the ripe young age of 59, I'd prefer to avoid this in the future if I can. I've decided to get at least one pair of semi-formal shoes I can wear to work, not work boots...

    TOYOTA 90915-YZZD1 CUT OPEN

They've always looked good when cut open here; if they were more efficient I'd be using them.

    Fram PH3600 C&P. Pending tear?

Yeah I was originally thinking that the EG3600 would be my go to filter for 8-10K, but then I cut one open and it wasn't that bad, but it looked at 5K like it was just about to tear. Now, I've got TG3600s on my cars and in the next few months I'll do a C&P with both at around 9-10K, and see what...

    M1 FS 0W-40, M1 FS 5W-40, D1 ESP 5W-40 Volatility Results - March 2025

Would the converse be true also--that if a higher grade oil results in less oil consumption, that the issue isn't the ring seal? I'm asking, because I've found that all 3 cars in my sig have reduced oil consumption when I switched to thicker oil.

    M1 FS 0W-40, M1 FS 5W-40, D1 ESP 5W-40 Volatility Results - March 2025

For volatility, we're really looking at the quality of the base oils, aren't we? That is to say, additives really aren't going to impact this--correct?

Good food to make on a budget.

Oatmeal flavored by sliced fresh or dried fruit. Cheap especially when you buy the oatmeal in Costco-sized super-duper packages. Heat up oatmeal 2 mins in microwave, and by that time I'm done cutting the fruit. Quick, cheap, & easy.
