Wyoming might be the home of the first sodium cooled nuclear plant in the U.S.

Some things are just a bad idea and using sodium for a coolant is one of those. If you think lithium battery fires are hard to put out, you aint seen nothin yet. I would be very curious what type heat exchangers they plan to use that will never ever develop a crack or leak. .

    Wheel grinding self-propelled mower

I had a similar problem with my toro. It came from the factory so misaligned and running gear so stiff that the rear wheels would sometimes slide when trying to pull it backwards. After taking the wheels off a couple times trying to figure out what was wrong I put some washers behind the...

    Tire bulge

The air is already half way to the outside. I would replace as soon as the tire store opens.

Antique Briggs Engine Spark Plug Selection

In normal use, something moderately loaded like a lawnmower or garden tiller, either the J17 or J19 will work great. I've used both in briggs flatheads since they first became available and have never seen any indication they were too hot. Back when the J8 was the briggs OEM plug I saw...

    How OLD are you.

I'm so old I don't buy green bananas.

SP170 dies @ full throttle unless choked

A plugged exhaust could explain some of the symptoms as could an exhaust valve closing way too early.

SP170 dies @ full throttle unless choked

You seem to have thoroughly investigated and eliminated all the usual suspects for this type problem. Two new carbs should rule out a carb problem. Your other work would seem to rule out fuel delivery. It's hard to imagine how the choke would offset an ignition problem, but I would still waste...

SP170 dies @ full throttle unless choked

If you haven't done so already, take the drain plug out of the carb float bowl and open the shutofff valve to verify if "enough" fuel is getting delivered to the carb with everything buttoned up like it would be during operation.. A healthy dribble is the way I would describe the typical flow...

SP170 dies @ full throttle unless choked

Sounds like the engine is being starved for fuel. Have to figure out why. The fact that it will idle fine would seem to indicate there is no air leak in the system and it is just running out of gas at higher load. A lot of small engines without a fuel filter will have a strainer built in to...

Why Do Enthusiasts Hate Walmart Products?

The problem with Wal Mart is you never know when they are going to totally cheap out some product. I could give you a list of several different items I've bought and used for years and then when I buy the replacement it craps out in a few months. I'm always a little worried they are going to...

    Iridium plug for stihl trimmer?

I'm the heretic here. Just retired a 15 year old Husqvarna after the fuel tank developed an incontinence problem. Sent it off with the OEM Champion sparkler. Ran just fine.

Diesel engines in ocean going cargo ships

The video I saw showed the bow thruster connected directly to the 6000V bus which in totally believable. As for the others it would depend on the pump speed and hp requirements. The plant where I worked had large slow speed motors 300-1000 hp that were all high voltage motors (4000 volts) to...

Old Briggs 3.5 Max governor spring

If you look carefully some of the replacement carbs on amazon will include a governor spring. I once bought a missing choke spring off Jacks small engines and paid $5 for the spring and $5 for shipping. When the mower still wouldn't start without ether I gave up and bought a new carb off...

    Windshield replacement?

Last time I tried to schedule Safelite nobody answered the phone and they referred me to the website. The website had three different price options, each one $10 or $20 more expensive. Back to the phones to try to get an explanation of the different options and it was completely impossible to...

Stihl backpack blower quits after running fine for a couple of minutes?

Go to Harbor Freight and get one of the $5 spark testers and narrow down the spark/fuel debate. I wasted days and even bought a second replacement carb chasing what I would have bet a paycheck was a carb problem only to put the tester on and find that the spark was cutting out.

Pennzoil Claims Formulation of Platinum Changed to Reflect New 15,000-mile Guarantee On Bottle

I just find it curious that there is now Quaker State Ultimate Protection which claims 20k mile durability, and sells for a couple dollars less than PP. I thought PP was supposed to be the flagship oil for Shell because of the GTL base oil.

To seal or not to seal driveway

Back when I had a house with asphalt drive I sealed mine each few years with the buckets of emulsion from Lowes. After the first time it was really slick when wet and the next time I put some sand in the mix that helped traction quite a bit. It lasted 15 years with no repairs.

Hertz charges customer $277 to refill Tesla 3 with gas, refuses to admit mistake or issue refund.

    Comfortable Seats

I've said the same thing about seats. My kids have now bought 3 Denali GMC products, all with seats hard as a hotel sofa. I also don't understand the fascination with black interiors. Maybe not a big deal up north but in the south if the car has black leather seats and you are wearing shorts...

Toro Personal Pace Propel when pulling up, opposite of what it use to do

The self propelling cable does not attach to the top of the personal pace handle. It attaches to a short plastic arm on a "crankshaft" underneath the personal pace handle. When you push down on the personal pace handle the crankshaft rotates the plastic arm backwards toward the operator...
