20 micron battle: Bosch 3430 vs Fram FE3980

yup. TG3980 and XG3980 have bypass valves and they should not. i'm really glad i cut all of these open. the Titanium wasn't one of the ones i was considering initially because i was already testing three 20um Fram filters - but i'm glad i picked that one up and cut it open too.

watch this video from here: the only Fram with an actual seal at the bottom of the filter (vs metal to metal) is the Titanium.

20 micron battle: Bosch 3430 vs Fram FE3980

fwiw - after cutting all of these open, I'm using the Titanium. sealed spring plate, much more filter media, metal screen backed media, and powerflow baseplate. if selecting a Fram, in the 3980 the Titanium is the clear winner.

20 micron battle: Bosch 3430 vs Fram FE3980

also - you keep repeating "filter has no bearing on flow" which is inaccurate and irresponsible. the reason Wix makes a 60um racing filter is to optimize flow for relatively disposable racing engines. and, in some racing applications they don't use oil filters at all. it would be accurate to...

20 micron battle: Bosch 3430 vs Fram FE3980

fwiw - 99% at 20um is equal to 99% at 20um. both companies are using the same ISO 4548-12 test. the ultra also has a bypass when it shouldn't in this application. the Titanium is the clear Fram winner

8 popular GM oil filters cut open & compared. 2 Clear Winners.

This filter model / spec was used in literally millions of GM vehicles from 1982 thru 2004. IMHO there are 2 clear winners. Take a look and comment with your thoughts: (application list removed - MOD)

20 micron battle: Bosch 3430 vs Fram FE3980

poor spring seal, much much less filter media, lower flow base plate. both at 99% at 20micron. here's more info, much more:

20 micron battle: Bosch 3430 vs Fram FE3980

According to Fram, the base plate design does affect flow / resistance - see their Powerflow Baseplate design on their Titanium filter. Of these 2 options - imho Bosch Premium edges out the Fram Endurance

Wix = Nominal (50%) at 21 microns? (Corvette LT1 Filter Options)

@ZeeOSix or anyone, I'm unable to find an efficiency rating for - AC Delco PF52E. This is a particularly interesting filter because of it's unique ecore construction and I'd really like to have reliable efficiency info on it for the comparison. Thanks for any help and Happy 4th! Here's AC Delco...

    Oil Filter Parent Companies?

I have a nice filter can cutter - I’m wondering what the best way to cut the pleated filter media off of the center core is. Maybe a hack saw?

I’ve added 2 more filters: Fram Titanium and Purolator One. Question: what’s the best technique for cutting the filter media off of the center tube neatly like Whip City Wrencher does it?

    Oil Filter Parent Companies?

I’m going to be cutting all of these open to compare them, along with Purolator One and Boss filters. I’ll do a YouTube video as well. These are all specd for the GM LT1 motor that’s in my 1992 Corvette, along with many other GM motors. I believe Purolator, Bosch and Mobil 1 are all made by...

PurolatorONE = 99%@30um, NOT 20um like it says on Amazon

So their cheapest filter is more efficient than the pure one filter?

PurolatorONE = 99%@30um, NOT 20um like it says on Amazon

Since M1 filters are also made be Mann-Hummel and are 99%@30, they’re probably identical to PureOne. I’m cutting a bunch of new filters open soon so we’ll see if they look identical too.
