    Property taxes vs home appreciation

My Mom and Dad were the same way. They stayed in their home way too long. Agree 120%

Agree with your POV 120%. The other interesting factor here is the house is owned by my son. The GF has no financial interest or equity sadly.....ughhh

    Property taxes vs home appreciation

Another option to look at is taking out a HELOC and investing the $$$$ at higher yield monthly rate and using the difference to pay the HELOC payment. For example if a HELOC interest rate costs you 8.00% and you can invest the funds and get a 12% yield (some closed end funds pay upwards of...

    Property taxes vs home appreciation

Jeff, I think from your POV of home values in your area also come into play. Here in the midwest my home has not appreciated to the level that some do on the coast. so it may be an apples to oranges comparison.

    extreme cold

All good questions that I need him to tell me answers to. I agree, my thought is that a 96% efficient gas furnace would be a better replacement. My suspicion is that there is some environmental sway going on here as his girlfriend feels the need to rid their house of natural gas.

My thanks to those of you whom responded about my question regarding heat strip operation with heat pumps. My son lives in the KC area. He is getting solar installed on his house. He currently has a forced air gas furnace 82% efficient. He is planning to replace it when it dies with a...

    Property taxes vs home appreciation

This is probably the most sound advice.....consult a professional who can help complete an analysis before making decision. That being said, houses might appreciate, but they also consume cash.....insurance, upkeep, taxes, etc. From a pure return on investment, my house is my worse asset.

    extreme cold

4 degrees here in the mid west. Question for those of you who have a heat pump and are experiencing these unusually cold temps, how is it keeping up? Have your auxilary heat strips kicked in, or are you using another method to get supplement heat?

Another reason to do oil change yourself.

This is totally a lack of education thing regarding on how tight to tighten a drain plug. When I was 16 working in a Texaco station, the owner stood by my side as I did my first oil change and grease job. He took the time to show me the kind of threads on an oil drain plug, and referred to...

Anyone else have a crazy dog that makes you laugh?

I guess I would have to say thin oil.....LOL. She loves to lick the pan after I finish making ham and beans with the little fat and oils left behind.

    GM 8L45 and Octane

I absolutely believe this! Here in the midwest most 87 octane fuels are testing beyond 10% ethanol levels. There is quite a bit that have found to be pushing to 15%. The 2018 Colorado that I mentioned in the previous thread regarding the fluid change is an example of what you are talking...

I want to waste money on a transmission additive

Agree. I think the terms flush, and exchange are used interchangeably even though they dont have the same meaning.

I want to waste money on a transmission additive

Just completed a full transmission service including filter change and full flush using Lubeguard protectant and shutter fix on a 2018 Chevy Colorado with the 8 speed 8L45 transmission. I also followed the TSB that was published for doing this and used the recommended Mobil transmission fluid...

Well I retired from GM today

Congrats! I owned a 2002 Olds Alero that was without a doubt one of the best built cars I have ever owned. I bought her used with 36k on the clock at 10 years old. It had the coldest AC of any car I ever owned, and had the most comfortable interior of any other car that I have ever owned...

Anyone else have a crazy dog that makes you laugh?

This is a GREAT THREAD! It is good to see all these canine friends and family members of you all on BITOG. This is welcome subject and change vs our battles with thick and thin oil, and which filter is winning us over these days. I have a pit bull mix myself and she is the first non pure...

    Nissan - Honda merger off

I dont think Toyota was involved directly. I am not sure at this point in the evolution of the car industry if existing plants have much value. There are several manufacturer's that are looking to assemble vehicles using the unboxed / giga casting design that Tesla has pioneered. This...
