Exhaust valves have hydraulic lifters - do you adjust intake valves?

I realized I never answered this question. I think most of the Honda cams I've seen, including my own Odysseys, are roller followers.

    I bought a 2010 Prius for $3000

Almost to 40,000 miles on it. Did the world's cheapest brake job last July. Fixed some vibrations on braking. Rotors were corroded, making a "donut" wear pattern on the inboard side. Car is getting a little less use lately, since we picked up a Honda Accord Hybrid.

Bought a very high miles 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid

Also - these rotors are probably not original (at 255k miles), as the rotor retaining screws had been removed. I suppose someone could have removed them, turned them, and reinstalled or pulled them to replace wheel bearings or whatever, but I doubt it. For whatever reason, I have had pretty bad...

Bought a very high miles 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid

Last night, I put some new brakes on the front. I went with some cheap parts - white box Amazon warehouse rotors and closeout "Famous Brand" (Carquest Gold) pads from Rockauto. I kind of felt like a jerk when I found that the car had Genuine Honda rotors and pads - very little wear on the pads...

Constant stopping and starting hard on timing chains?

Toyota and Honda hybrids stop and start much more often. Timing chain problems are uncommon.

What happened to BMW and its designs?

I think a large part of the big grilles on modern vehicles is blocked off and not providing any ventilation. The photo in the original post is from the pre-Bangle era at BMW. Bangle was the original "what happened to BMW styling" controversy. But the designs from his era are twenty years old now.

    Previous owner poor MPG

You know, I'm kind of fuzzy with the numbers. I remember when we were signing the title that I thought he had done 100,000 in a year, but... it probably was a bit less than that. Likewise, I'm not certain about what his job was, thought it was some kind of sales position related to a food...

    Previous owner poor MPG

The last two cars I've bought are hybrids. In both cases, they keep a pretty good history on the MPG for the trip odometer. On both my Prius and Accord Hybrid, the previous owners seem to have been getting in the 30s for mpg. On the Prius, I'm assuming the owner short tripped a lot and that...

Article: comparing the two most inexpensive new cars in the USA - Mirage vs Versa.

When I was working fast food as a teen, one of my co-workers traded her 1986 Supra for a Mirage. She was happy.

2024 Honda CRV Hybrid Maintenance Schedule

For the "eCVT" (kind of a misnomer on a Honda, IMO) there is a gearbox with differential and in the case of the CR-V, two direct drive gears and clutches. Plus the two electric motors.

You gotta get one of those spark plug sockets with the extension

Most cars today have spark plugs down in deep wells. I got along fine with a regular spark plug socket and an extension, except when the extension popped off the socket and I had to fish down in the hole for it. Finally got one of these...

    Anybody use a Gimbal ratchet?

I could have used one for the timing belt job I just did on a Pilot... a lot of time spent working in the slot between the "front" of the engine and the body, spinning out bolts that were just a little too stiff to do with the fingers but not a lot of room to swing a ratchet.

How much metal should I find in an oil filter?

I'd be hitting the pick-n-pull type yards, if you live in an area where there are several of them. I'm guessing it's pretty quick to pull the valve cover, especially if you have a battery-powered impact wrench. When my Odyssey front cam went bad, they were on backorder, so that's what I did...

BREAKING: C&D picks Accord over Camry and Sonata in battle of hybrid sedans

I looked it up - it does have a differential with fluid that requires changing, as well as CV axles. Pretty sure there's no driveshaft though.

BREAKING: C&D picks Accord over Camry and Sonata in battle of hybrid sedans

I'm not sure if the electric rear drive assist really needs maintenance on Toyota hybrids. But the wiring was a weak spot in RAV4s. I went many, many years before acquiring an AWD vehicle last year - but I have found it to be useful in a couple of occasions already. If I was buying one of these...

BREAKING: C&D picks Accord over Camry and Sonata in battle of hybrid sedans

Yeah, I was picking on the review, but it did cover a lot. I think they should have bashed the Honda harder for not having height-adjustable passenger seat.

BREAKING: C&D picks Accord over Camry and Sonata in battle of hybrid sedans

I have some comments, or you can call it "cope" about that review: 1. I didn't see how the MSRP of the two cars compared. The Accord was a lower-level model, and they bashed on its monochromatic interior, lack of rear A/C vents, and poor sound quality - all addressed on higher trims. Some...

PhD in 4th gen Odyssey alternator swaps...

On the Odyssey forums they will jump all over you with the "Denso reman only!" if you mention using a store alternator. I did put an AAP one on years ago on the first ody I had, and I think it was ok although the alt light did come in a few times. Oil leak from the spool valve is the top...
