What are you doing right now?

Oh I forgot, I got home yesterday afternoon from up north. Work had me away for a week. Spent it up in a little rez called Dillon. Nice place! In the way home, I came across 8 black bears. 5 cubs and 3 mommas. Some stuck around for pictures.

What are you working on today?

After the team penning weekend wrapped up, I rolled my daughter's Escape into the shop. Took no time to rip it down and pop the bearing out. I knocked the hub out and used the new bearing remover for the actual bearing. Worked slick as snot and I ain't lying. Tomorrow I'll roll into town and...

@D60 i have only heard about auto adjusters in lore. Never seen one in the wild. I truly don't even know if they are real....

Here it is in all it's glory. As rusty as the day she arrived. Of course I had to wipe off the respi free that puked out of the bottle.

What are you doing right now?

Just hanging out between runs. The Saskatchewan team penners are competing this weekend. My oldest daughter is holding and changing herds with her new horse. Seems to be adapting to cattle quite well. She will catch ride a few classes this afternoon.

I use some sort of contraption that I found on the junk pile when we moved onto our previous acreage. I think it was back in 2012. I snap a pic layer today. It works so I kept it. I keep it in our 6 horse but should really keep one in our 3 horse.

    New tool thread

Here is that bearing tool and Cummins barring tool i snagged last week. I think alot of these tools come from the same Chinese factory, just different colored plastic and packaging.

What are you working on today?

@Number_35 i dont recall your post. Likely because I hadn't encountered this setup yet. The bearing went in, had a rough spot, but I sent it for nearly 100km. I was gone for the week with work, so this week I'll punch it out and get a new one in. Napa says they will honor the part warranty...

    New tool thread

@D60 this link may possibly work, which is the Canadian equivalent of harbor freight. I think this same one is just the usual rebranded, offshore sourced tool. https://www.princessauto.com/en/cummins-barring-tool/product/PA0009154998 It was on sale and gives me a excuse to check valve...

    New tool thread

Picked up a couple odds and ends. Performance Tool 23 piece FWD wheel bearing service kit to do a better job of the wheel bearings on my daughter's Escape. Seeing it was only sale, an engine barring tool for my 6.7 Cummins.

Why are Chryslers said to be sensitive to whether you use +4 or not?

@D60 This is just my usual, locally made Co-op ATF SL. Group 4 based. It costs a hair more than Maxlife in my parts.

Why are Chryslers said to be sensitive to whether you use +4 or not?

In my extremely narrow experience with ATF+4 was with my 2011 Ram 1500 with the 545RFE 5 speed auto. Used a universal ATF around 100,000km and run until about 150 before traded in. Did a full fluid exchange and the fluid was labeled suitable for use. What did I find? Nothing. It ran...

What are you working on today?

Did a little odds and ends on the rubbie Pontiac Sunfire. Oil change completed...... easy enough but the filter on the OHV 2.2 was less than fun. Threw on a made in US Motomaster OEM plus and in went some Co-op Elite 5w30 conventional. It has a random CEL that I haven't scanned yet and the...

What are you working on today?

Got little Shelly home. Needs a clean up, some basic maintenance but overall a neat little addition to our funny farm of vehicles. Oh and on the way home we snagged another little rocket. Got a dirt cheap 2002 Pontiac Sunfire, auto, 4 door. Needs a bit of maintenance but a wicked little...

What are you working on today?

No pics yet but snagged a 1991 Daihatsu Hijet, 4x4 and manual transmission. She's going to be a little chore wagon to bomb around the property. This week I hope to get all the fluids changed out but overall runs really good.

What are you working on today?

So, in a turn of events, i had knocked out that new bearing and had plans to return it. I wrongly assumed the inner race was one peice, not two. That's why I messed up the installation. Ok, fine. Looking it all over, I figured what harm will it do, it's a press fit and the inner races are...

Why is M1 grease so messy?

Yep, my experience as well. I stopped using it because it continually leaked out of the gun. The only other grease I had that leaked was some Chevron Duralith..... if that's what it was called.... mind you its took 10 years of the tube sitting before it leaked. The Mobil leaked as soon as I...

What are you working on today?

Well boys, things didn't go as planned. I used the old bearing as a driver and knocked in the new bearing. Seemed to go easy enough. Then warmed up the bearing and went to knock in the new hub. Well, it began to knock the centre out of the new bearing out!! So now, being Sunday, things are...

What are you working on today?

Day one of changing out the front driver side wheel bearing on the 2004 Escape. Torn down and knocked out the hub and bearing. I just rigged up some wood blocks and found some sockets that fit and used a hammer. The ball joint was tight but noticed the boot was torn. Ran into Napa and bought...
