Piston soak questions (search was fruitless)

Can you tell me anything else about the rolling soak method? Sounds time consuming but almost worth it, because I do recall the utter sense of dread when the car failed to start after cranking for like 30 seconds at a time for almost five minutes. (I didn't know the cause of this at the time)

Piston soak questions (search was fruitless)

Edit: Car is 2019 Kia Sportage What size socket to hand crank the motor? How often should I crank the motor by hand with 2 oz of fluid in the cylinders over a 24hr period? How do you get the motor to crank with the plugs out? My first and only piston soak, I had plugs out and coils off...

    B12 piston soak question

How do you get the car to crank with plugs out? When I attempted a piston soak, the car just buzzed when I cranked with plugs out. You have to pull a fuse or something?

Hyundai 2.4 oil for replacement engine

**** you had two Hyundais with no oil consumption? What the ass. Now you really just bragging lol (jk) This is going to sound silly, but if you been using the Prolong since new, do you think that has something to do with the fact your car doesn't consume oil?

Hyundai 2.4 oil for replacement engine

Some people just get really lucky while the vast majority of us with the 2.4L Theta II have oil guzzlers.

    Flow rate comparison.

This. I'm pretty sure the start-stop technology was designed with that concern in mind, because I know in my government vehicle, a 2021 Ford Escape, the start-stop doesn't activate Until the engine reaches a certain temp. What that temp is IDK, because it's before the gauge reaches operation...

Want to try HPL after 4 OCIs of Valvoline Restore and Protect

Well, short answer is, no. But it never worsened from before using it but I can't say definitively that it helped, sadly. But that doesn't mean all other claims of those who have tried and experience a reduction in oil consumption are false/invalid. If anything, it has much more to do with my...

is cleaning always a good idea on high mileage engine?

That anecdote is from what, 30 years ago? Longer maybe? Idk when detergent motor oil was a "new thing".

is cleaning always a good idea on high mileage engine?

If the VRP caused a problem (for any reason but I doubt it will), is it something that screws you over if the Ford has to go to the shop? I guess I'm asking, do you have another vehicle just in case? I honestly believe you have nothing to worry about. That's been a limiting factor for me, only...

post your latest transmission lubricant change.

I've done three drain and fills, each 3k miles apart, first at 112k and last at 118k, and each time the fluid is always dark when contained. But using a tissue I was able to see that my most recent drain and fill was much lighter and with a slight pink hue compared to the brown of the fluid in...

is cleaning always a good idea on high mileage engine?

That's kind of to be expected with obsessions, they don't make sense. Obsession or not, I find it fascinating, as I'm sure others do too. And It's not like we're the only weirdos either. The people at these big oil companies researching, engineering, testing, and marketing this stuff likely...

Do vehicles go out of alignment as miles add up?

In my opinion, it's lack of tire maintenance. You know, tire rotations and air checks. Also worn/malfunctioning brake and suspension components can have a significant, if gradual, effect on tire performance and wear, decreasing their lifespan, sometimes drastically if you're really negligent.

Want to try HPL after 4 OCIs of Valvoline Restore and Protect

Wow, did not expect this thread to reach 3 pages already. I love the expertise and knowledge on display. I appreciate everyone's input and encouragement. Nice to have people to turn to about this stuff. In light of this discussion, I'll hold off on using HPL, because I agree with everyone who...

Want to try HPL after 4 OCIs of Valvoline Restore and Protect

After the $5 rebate (offer through next july), the 29.99 VRP is only like $5 more over SupedTech at the WMs in my area

Want to try HPL after 4 OCIs of Valvoline Restore and Protect

How long did you let it soak? Anyone ever try or think of trying something with PEA in a piston soak?

How does cleaning piston rings reduce oil consumption?

Man that's gnarly. Really puts into perspective what engine cleaning agents (flushes, esters/detergents etc in oil add packs) and chemicals used for piston soaks actually have to go through.
