HPL PCMO 5w-20 10.3k mi; 2014 Subaru Outback 153.8k mi

Haha! I do actually have 5w-30 HPL for the next fill! Thanks for the input subieroo. So 25 points over baseline is the condemnation point? Going to push for 15k most likely. Good info, thanks!

HPL PCMO 5w-20 10.3k mi; 2014 Subaru Outback 153.8k mi

This is my thinking too. 15k seems doable. I'm using a Microguard Select which replaced a Fram Endurance at about 8k miles.

HPL PCMO 5w-20 10.3k mi; 2014 Subaru Outback 153.8k mi

My quest to find how long I can run this oil continues. Looks decent save for the Silicon that keeps climbing. Last UOA at 6k miles I took the intake apart and checked everything from filter to throttle body, all good. After seeing this latest silicon number I ordered a K&N disposable filter...

    New Purolator Gold Filters

Wipe it off and run it if that is what you want to run. As a marine machinist, there is nothing to worry about there. I would certainly try those filters if I shopped at Walmart.

Outside of extended OCIs with ideal usage (all highway), what is the use case for boutique oils?

If you email Maryjane in the office at HPL you can get any amount of quarts you would like.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

2014 outback with 156k. Running HPL in engine/trans/diffs, at least 10k OCI’s though still trying to figure out how long I can stretch it! Have only changed rear wheel bearings and alternator pulley clutch. 23rd year running Subarus and the fifth one I’ve owned, never let us down. 2007...

    Harley-Davidson Moving More Production Overseas!

and they won’t change their style because that is what sells them. I, like you, did find the buells interesting. Had they stuck around longer there may actually be one in my stable. I also thought for sure that victory was really going to push into that big cruiser crowd for the long haul, then...

    Harley-Davidson Moving More Production Overseas!

Harley would have to make some massive changes to make decent small bikes. Their current offers are generally not small or light. Good first step would be getting away from massive, antiquated engines. From what I’m seeing, sport-nakeds are really what people are going for, under 700cc range...

    Harley-Davidson Moving More Production Overseas!

I see this everyday. I ride to work year-round and park with about 200 other bikes outside work. On the best of summer riding days you’d be hard-pressed to count more than 20-25 Harley’s in that lot. Sport-makers clearly make up the majority, even supersports aren’t common. Harley’s are mainly...

    Harley-Davidson Moving More Production Overseas!

This for sure. Moving production of anything overseas does not guarantee a quality drop, HD still has complete control over that. Look at most electronics brands, mostly made in china yet quality is still quite good because they want it to be.

    Amsoil High Mileage

Look at their euro line for that.

    Amsoil High Mileage

I have good reason to believe that Amsoil kept my rings clean while using SS before switching to HPL. Not the same as this high-mileage, however, I would believe it will at least help with the rings/lands.

Reasons NOT to use Kirkland 0w-20 or 5W-30 Synthetic...?

Again, not the same as ringland carbon. Looks like even the boutiques and VRP are really slow at cleaning varnish up. All cleaning varnish gets you is bragging rights.

Reasons NOT to use Kirkland 0w-20 or 5W-30 Synthetic...?

Because varnish on the valve train and ring land carbon are not the same beast. Take a peek at some of the filter C&P threads on here where liberated carbon bits are found after running a cleaner oil. While OP certainly doesn’t have a race car, it is still turbocharged, direct inject, a long...

Reasons NOT to use Kirkland 0w-20 or 5W-30 Synthetic...?

If that's the case, personally, I would run something that is going to keep your rings and ring lands clean for the long haul. Yes, I know just about every approved oil should do that, however, we have seen on this site that isn't always the case. I'm keeping my vehicles to the end and this is...

Reasons NOT to use Kirkland 0w-20 or 5W-30 Synthetic...?

The big question here is how long do you plan to keep it? Driving the wheels off it? Trade-in in a year or two?

Keeping a vehicle for the long haul…oil choice

It’s about keeping the rings/ ring grooves clean, not some varnish on the inside of the valve cover. That’s where VRP, HPL, Amsoil come into play.

    Ester based motorcycle oil

running it now, its doing its job! At 2k on the HPL 10w-40 motorcycle, not quite ready to take a sample yet though so don’t know those details. Switched from Amsoil metric 10-40 which was super stout, I have a UOA on this for it. Edit: here it is, if you are interested. I also ride this bike...

    Amsoil metric oil

Most certainly. Granted, metric Amsoil worked fine in my brand-new duke 390, I promptly got rid of it…..for other quality reasons!

Lake Speed Jr. ... Diesel vs Gas oils

I’ve tried the rotella in 3 separate road going motorcycles and shifts were terrible, everytime. Motorcycle specific oils are there for a reason, and not expensive!
