Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w-30 - Virgin UOA

Lol, there are some defects that are irreparable, this isn't one of them. Using simple logic combined with hands on mechanical knowledge/experience says carbon buildup is not a day one problem, it is cumulative. The issue is mitigated using an oil that is different than ones that have gone...

    Brutal article about Hailie Deegan

All of us are needed to keep discussions lively. This isn't about the Dinger. It's very specifically comparing two female drivers. But since we're at it, lol, Jimmy Johnson seven-time NASCAR champ couldn't come near to match what Danica did in Indy car. Is anybody going to question the...

Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w-30 - Virgin UOA

I'll be changing the oil on my 2010 Acura TL SH AWD with the 3.7 l engine tomorrow. It has a known ring defect (loose/not enough tension) that allows carbon buildup and increases oil consumption. I've done my first oci with Restore and Protect 5w30. Have been diligent and keeping track of oil...

    Brutal article about Hailie Deegan

Billt460, what's the emoji on your reaction representing? You agree that Deegan will not achieve accomplishment due to lack of talent (my comment was tongue in cheek and that Deegan will never achieve a fraction of what Danica did) or that Danica didn't really amount to much either despite her...

    Brutal article about Hailie Deegan

Deegan is going to the NXT series, maybe she'll end up with an Indy car win, a couple top fives in the 500 and make her way back to NASCAR to win the Daytona 500 pole. Not about male or female, it's about accomplishment and Danica has proven herself more than a high percentage of any drivers...

Amsoil Motorcycle Oil - why is API rating outdated?

With respect to phosphorus, why/why not would a higher level preclude/include an oil as JASO MA or not today vs 10 or 30 years years ago? Clutches have not changed one iota in 30+ years. Sure there are slipper clutches, however never heard a single instance where phosphorus and/or zinc (which...

    Brutal article about Hailie Deegan

Two top fives in the Indy 500, 6 top tens in the Indy 500? Don't mention what you did and conveniently leave that out. Winning an IndyCar race by any strategy means you won. 95% of career drivers haven't done any of those. Sounds like stretching the fuel for Indy winners or NASCAR winners...

    Brutal article about Hailie Deegan

Danica won an Indy car race, Daytona 500 pole, 2 top five and 6 top 10 finishes in the Indy 500. No matter how either one of them looks outside of racing, Deegan can't and won't hold a candle to what Patrick has done.

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

Nice, I have a 2001 ZRX. 2-3 mpg difference on 10% ethanol vs 100% gas. My XS1100 didn't know the difference in ethanol vs non ethanol. In any case, you are doing what you can and look forward to hearing how/when/if you find the answer.

What are your spark plugs looking like after the ride you just took? As well, are you checking on the center stand or on level ground? I'm going to assume when checking the oil, the bike position is consistent. Check it a few more times at different places on the ride, etc. That will...

I can't make mechanical sense of it either. Pete in PA isn't a bad guy here, he's taking the discussion where it was going and I appreciate the new puzzle to figure out, and with a particular bike I had. To be clear, not saying the valve springs are "weak". To me, it begs to ask if they...

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

Thinking of valve spring tension, are bikes that experience this higher mile bikes? That's one thought. Another thought is with the relatively low redline, Honda in typical fashion, may have used the least valve spring tension needed. Can anyone add as to why this may happen after longer rides...

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

I understood this to mean gas behind the valves (between valve and seat) gummed and kept them from closing. This mentions valve guides. Is it a ring that forms around the valve stem and therefore the valve can't travel in the guide? Either way, apparently the valve springs aren't strong...

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

I was on the ST1300 forum as an owner and spent considerable time there as the point in working with members and Delkevic to introduce slip-ons. I missed something as I never saw this issue mentioned. I gather analysis was done and it was congealed ethanol? Not wanting to get on the wrong...

The effects of car oil on wet clutches and high rpm engines.

It may be evidence that the bike with barely 1000 miles a year when you got it didn't need to clean the rings, but re-seat the rings from the sitting it had done. Typically a bike is ridden more when a rider first gets it, and unless it is known, that bike might have been ridden much less than...

78 XS750 with excessive oil burning and lower compression in center cyl.

Carburetors have been gumming up since the dawn of internal combustion. Ethanol gives us something to talk about. Yes it's more finicky, but there are known methods to deal with it. Fuel injection makes it less so to a very high degree, especially "gumming on the valves" which makes no sense...

Post Your Latest (Motorcycle) Oil Change!

So there's an oil filter and filter screens replaced each OCI, as well as new magnets with the filter screens? From the looks of that blister pack, that's what an OCI entails. WTH happened to a filter each OCI and a magnetic drain plug that lasts a lifetime?
