Anyone in here have a bike that still has carbs?

I suspect it is pretty common to get some water in a fillup of gasoline, and that will wreak havoc on ethanol fuel. A gasoline station I walked by regularly was located near a harbor, and I watched the process of them replacing their tanks. The ground level there is just barely above sea level...

most disappointing car you ever had.

One other thing about the 2003 Chevy Impala was the water pump seemed to be a regular maintenance item. Luckily they were very easy to replace since they only lasted 25,000 miles or so.

most disappointing car you ever had.

That's great! I called around and found a dealer willing to let me replace the BCM in their lot and then helped me push the car into their garage where they reprogrammed it. I had to pay for just the reprogramming, but it wouldn't start without it.

Cars might be making a comeback in an SUV-Dominated Market

I live on a busy city street and I watch lots of people struggle to park their large pickups and SUVs. If people drove smaller cars there would be 25% more parking spaces on my block. Most of the people that exit these vehicles are not utilizing the storage or hauling space, but they have to lug...

most disappointing car you ever had.

2003 Chevy Impala. Lots of good stuff about the car until the mysterious ignition problem that prevented the car from starting. Spent years trying to find a solution. Finally replaced the body control module, which mostly solved it, after spending lots of money on various fixes that didn't work...

Anyone in here have a bike that still has carbs?

Yes, we had problems with carbs gumming up "back in the day" before ethanol in fuel. When ethanol first showed up it created lots of problems with engines that didn't have seals and such that could resist the ethanol. I opened up a bunch of outboard carbs that had disintegrated O-rings and the...

Anyone in here have a bike that still has carbs?

For what it is worth I add the blue marine Stabil to every tank of gas in motorcycles, outboards, and my snowblower. Never drain in the off season and they all start right up just as good as new. I have a 2006 Ninja 500 (with carbs) that has been kept this way since new, and usually not run for...

Current when jump starting a car

Look at the dinky little jump start batteries you can charge with your phone charger, and note how puny the cables are. They work because the massive start amperage is drawn from the main battery and the regular battery cables and the path from the jump start battery to the starter passes...

    Ha! Just bought a 1989 Saab 900. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess.

Wife's first cousin no helmet crash

I do wear MOTSGMOTT (most of the safety gear most of the time), but I still believe that 90% of staying safe is the driver, no matter who is "at fault." I have had some close calls that were not really my fault, but I could have avoided if I was a) even more attentive and b) traveling a little...

    Oil stash

Quote I keep about one oil change on hand. If I see oil on sale, sometimes I'll buy it. I do have 3 5 quart jugs of Chevron 5W-30 for my daughters highlander that i bought on closeout. But I am generally trying to avoid stockpiling supplies. So when I do an oil change, I will start looking for...

The beginning of the end for wind power in Ontario

Sure, there's a need for backup power. That's why there is a grid that links together different plants. Even your beloved gas and nuclear plants go offline for various reasons, and then they need to be backed up by things like wind, solar, and hydro. Or, you can do something like the big pumped...

    2000 Dodge Ram 5.9L - 735 miles

I guess it is just not my thing, but I can't see why an ordinary truck is worth that much money, no matter how ugly the color scheme! I would be wary of a seller who misspells "Dodge" in an ad for a Dodge truck. It does say "museum quality." The problem might be finding the right museum...

Adding distilled water to sealed battery?

If the battery is more than about 3 years old I would just replace it. There are various YouTube videos showing how to service "maintenance free" batteries. How do you know it is low on acid if you haven't opened it up?

The beginning of the end for wind power in Ontario

Do some Googling to read the truth about wind and other alternative energy sources. It's already the cheapest way to produce new power and getting cheaper. Every energy source has its ups and downs in the growth phase. Just ask insurance companies how exciting nuclear is. When your money is on...
