What are you working on today?

Drove a few towns over to buy this little 30” Snapper for what I hope was a good price. It was a non runner but after about 30 minutes of electrical work it’s running good. So far I’ve dropped a new Ever Start battery in and ordered about $120 of mostly genuine Briggs parts on Amazon for it. I...

2019 John Deere 1025R 156 hours on machine, don't know hours on oil as Deere was doing PMs on it under a maintenance plan every year. Good for another year now. Out: Deere house oil(Plus 50 15w40 I assume?) and a Deere filter In: 3 quarts of CenPeCo 5w40 and a SuperTech ST6607 Serviced a...

"You don't see those on the road much anymore"

Of all the things we could debate today OP chose an anecdotal statement that can't be proven or disproven. Exciting. I think the term "garbage bait" was used on a recent thread and I'd say this one qualifies.

What are you working on today?

Had a long week of grass fires and one house fire in addition to working two jobs. I ran the tanker on all of our calls for the week. Yesterday I changed the oil in my Deere 1025r and installed the 60D mower deck I bought for it. Had to install all of the brackets and adjust the auto connect...

Started engine with no coolant after timing belt/water pump job

Won't hurt a thing. I test fire forklifts all the time after timing belt jobs before filling them with coolant.

What are you working on today?

Those are still $900-1500 on marketplace around me. Crazy money for a product with virtually no OEM support anymore

What are you working on today?

Suffered through a back injury today to mount 4 new tires for my dump truck. That turned into finding a wheel seal starting to leak and pulling a hub. Gotta drive into town tomorrow and find a seal and set of brake shoes. I’ll steam clean the hub and drum to get the oil out of it. Normally I’d...

    What should 5G speeds be

5G is spotty at our farm, sitting in one particular recliner I will occasionally get 5G. I know when it happens because everything goes to a complete standstill. If I get up and walk away LTE comes back and everything works again.

    Montana car registration LLC?

I can't imagine wanting to avoid paying taxes on something you bought with money that was taxed when you earned it..... (sarcasm for those who don't get it)

No more diesels, first brand new super duty

I'm not sure I would own a 6.7. Our 6.2 gas trucks have been stellar.

Making my own less toxic brake cleaner with acetone, IPA, denatured alcohol, maybe heptane?

I will second the Sure Shot and mineral spirits. I use a fraction of the brake cleaner now compared to before. We even went that way at work.

    Unhappy Neighbors...

Thought some of you might get a kick out of this. We own/control around 300 acres of hay field and pasture ground and always have a slew of locals asking to fish the ponds or river, wanting to hunt this or that, look for mushrooms, etc. The answer is and has always been no. Today I had a...

If you could change one thing on your daily driver what would it be?

Parts availability. I still daily drive my 94 Tercel and I don't really miss any of the modern comforts but I fear that availability of quality replacement parts will be what takes it off the road.

Is there anything you can hire out cheaper than you can do it yourself?

In agriculture it's usually cheaper to hire out hay production rather than do it yourself especially if you don't have many acres to put up. However I've had a few arguments with locals and family that once you figure the lost hay quality in waiting on someone it's no longer cheaper. I spent a...

    Why Do Vehicles "Wear Out"

It’s been my experience that “usually” it’s a transmission related failure. The average driver will take their car to a quick lube where at least the engine oil is changed and basic fluid checks are done. I’d be willing to bet that most of the vehicles on the road are overdue for trans...

Who is using ATF in your power steering system?

I use ATF in all of mine except the trucks that call for 15w40.

Plumbing a shop for air compressor

Black pipe for your main line up near the ceiling and then you can do your drops in air brake tubing. Make sure your main line slopes away from the compressor with a moisture trap and drain on the far end. To be “right” each drop should have a trap and drain as well. I also highly recommend the...

    Salting ruins gravel roads?

It's more of a side effect of the road being wet due to melted snow. The road likely would have ended up like that when it thawed anyway however due to the amount of traffic it may be in worse shape than nearby roads that didn't stay wet as long. Most of our county looks like this right now as...
