Cheapest way into a long-term windows system?

Cost cutting on cheap laptops is all in the chassis, keyboard, TouchPad, and screen. I expect you would be very disappointed in all of those items. My strategy is to buy a business grade laptop from any of the main players (lenovo, hp, Dell, etc.) Business grade seems to have better chassis...

    Replacing wheel stud

In general you remove them to create space. On your vehicle there might be enough space already. So try it

2024 ram 2500. Any reason to buy a factory warranty?

If it comes with a 5yr/100000mi powertrain warranty I don't think an extended makes sense. You already have 5 years of coverage. It's hard to predict if he will even own the truck in 5 years or if it's on the road anymore.

    Replacing an engine options.

I agree, perfect opportunity to learn something. It's very common on BMW M cars to change rod bearings. It's all over your head until you do the 1st one.

    Replacing an engine options.

A set of rod bearing is <$50 on rock auto. If you can do it in frame by dropping the oil pan it might be worth a shot. Seems like you want to do it on the cheap.

Why owning a home is so pricey ...

About 11 years ago I bought a house. My sunk costs every month (taxes, insurance, maintenance) we higher than renting. However I did get more Land, square footage, amenities. Conventional wisdom from everyone was how renting is just throwing money away. It really depends. Renting was certainly...

When would be a good time to buy oem parts pre-emptively?

Also, if a pre-purchased part is damaged, bad, or doesn't fit you will be beyond the return window.

When would be a good time to buy oem parts pre-emptively?

I wouldn't buy more than 6 months ahead. What if your vehicle is hit and totaled out?

Day in the life of a mechanic...

Thanks, I wasn't asking to throw stones. Genuinely curious becuase I drive a lot of interstate miles where traffic is moving 80-90 for hundreds of miles. I drove a altima and forte both got 30+ at 80mph and were quiet.

2015 Subaru Forester TR580 CVT Transmission Bearing Replacement

Replaced the bearings on the primary and secondary pulleys. It's common enough that there are youtube videos of the sound. The factory service manual calls for three bond rtv. What would you use in place of rtv?

Did Ford/GM develop a more complicated transmission for the least gain?

The 10R family is used in F150-F550. The ZF9 isn't used in trucks according to Wikipedia. So not apples to apples.

All of the bearings I removed had laser engraved branding and part numbers on the race. Post a picture of the part and assembly.

2015 Subaru Forester TR580 CVT Transmission Bearing Replacement

Number 1 in my diagram is DG358816 it is the part that was incorrect in the kit. Picture of the assembly below. I ordered a genuine koyo on ebay. (DG358816 is the part I needed. A different number was in the kit)

Stanford research: EV batteries may last 40% longer than we previously thought?

Seems completely reasonable to me. Consider the different design/steps. Battery cell, battery pack, vehicle integration, end use case estimation. At each step there is some safety factor built in and estimations occurring. Looks like the estimates and safety factors were conservative. Testing...
