    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Are you aware if the engine consumes oil?

    Valvoline Restore & Protect

Yeah, that could be a net negative; depending on if cleaning would be occurring. Valvoline isn’t necessarily formulated for extended intervals; as they do not market their oils that way. If cleaning is going on, what’s the purpose of keeping the crud circulation?

Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20, 8.5k kms; 2015 Subaru WRX 95k kms

I figured it to be GC with a number that high. Although, 5% is a lot regardless of test method.

Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20, 8.5k kms; 2015 Subaru WRX 95k kms

Agree with @edyvw on upping a grade and the PP Euro is a good recommendation if sticking with Pennzoil. Good to step up given the fuel presence.

    Mobil syn blend 10W-30 2k mi; 1991 Toyota pick-up 22RE 80k mi

Should there be a time cap for the OP's vehicle if conditions remain seldom driven? Or is some corrosion/moisture possible for prolonged sitting without service? Makes me wonder what the upper cylinders and heads look like. Isn't fogging typically a thing in this situation? Then, there's the bit...

    Amsoil SS & GF-7

Wonder if their testing capacity combined with data from their partnership with Lingenfelter is going to make the Signature Series line even better.

    Has GTL proved itself?

It's quite ironic when the projections start flying. Ego is certainly at play in this thread. The irony.

Lake Speed Junior High Zinc Oil new video

Exactly, since he included the picture in a monetized video. Strange of him to do. Seems very lazy, but no wonder when the masses believe Napa Synthetic is the best oil ever now because of "science"...when not done if a truly scientific way. Kinda ironic.

    Has GTL proved itself?

With all due respect, you’ve been given the answer. One base oil type isn’t the only factor; by a long shot, to whether an engine reaches high mileage so it cannot be credited as the reason to making high mileage even when it’s been in use. That’s like asking did an engine that failed prior to...

    Has GTL proved itself?

It’s an honest question. I didn’t add my own reply to be critical or dismissive. I think shaming you for the question would be the wrong approach. Stay curious, that’ll get you far, and try not to take anything stated here personally. I’m sure there are plenty of high mileage engines that have...

    Has GTL proved itself?

Yep. Overly enthusiastic newcomers by nature lead to inaccurate conclusions from a lack of context and nuanced understanding of a given data point. I think it’s best we all remain life-long learners; even if we are self-aware experts, it’s good to remain humble and willing to learn more or...

    Has GTL proved itself?

This is the truth. It happens to all of us; and it’s one reason many of the more senior board members here usually hesitate to make claims or definitive statements regarding comparisons in real world as opposed to “typical properties” on paper and in theory. What about this…Is GTL causing early...

Oil for 170,000+ mile 2009 Honda Fit Sport

Gotcha. Up to you when to replace the inline filter a 2nd time. I think it might be better to hold off until you completely convert to a different fluid. Wait until your first D&F after that, then change the filter again so the new fluid has time to do its thing.

Oil for 170,000+ mile 2009 Honda Fit Sport

Good plan. I'm running Amsoil Signature Series ATF (ATL blue cap) and it's performed well. I think 30k is the limit I would do on DW-1. People have used MaxLife for years in Honda A/Ts as well as Amsoil Signature. It's just a bit more money up front if you do a proper conversion to either...

    Used Amsoil EA15K13 C&P

Yes. Precisely. I’m wondering if Amsoil changes those who make their filters like many other brands have; going to premium guard

    Used Amsoil EA15K13 C&P

Yes. This ruffled appearance from the stamping has been a consistent finding in the “leaky bypass valves” saga, due to allowing oil to constantly bypass filtration even when the valve is closed.

    Used Amsoil EA15K13 C&P

The bypass stamping looks ruffled on this one if you look at the 2nd from last photo.

Oil for 170,000+ mile 2009 Honda Fit Sport

Whats the service history on the ATF? I don’t believe the internal parts are considered a maintenance item. Just keep up regular D&F intervals on the fluid and occasionally replacing the inline filter is all that’s needed. Those even can go a long time. I’m at 345k and I’ve replaced the...

    What's everyone's favorite 0w-20 these days?

I believe moly is considered one of the best additives for timing chain protection. On the other hand, lots of moly can lead to more engine deposits; especially over long drain intervals. Delicate balance.
