    Where is Yamaha's Classic Cruisers?

V-star bikes have always been terrible handling bikes. The 1100 was especially terrible. The frame geometry was never good. Forget about trying to ride a Vstar 1100 in the rain/wet…it’s flat dangerous compared to almost any other motorcycle. The reliability is top notch, but the handling is...

What is a good dry chain lube for oring chain - even though owners manual says no

A light coating of 75w90 gear oil is probably the best lubricant for the rollers. Most manufacturers recommend gear oil or heavy weight motor oil.

Help me decide what oil to use in new KTM

This may help clear some confusion. FWIW it explains why some have the issue and some do not. There is a manufacture issue on some heads. We don’t have current cases of 23 and 24 790s which are CF Moto built, however many don’t have high miles yet. There are failures in 23 Norden and 890s...

Road Trip! Tail of the Dragon!

that’s awesome! Certainly would love to do that on a whim sometime! I was tempted to fly out to Vegas last year and ride back a new leftover 2020 MV Agusta Turismo Veloce. I however couldn’t bring my self to buy it given there isn’t a dealer within 100 miles of my home. They just don’t seem to...

Road Trip! Tail of the Dragon!

First Valve check is recommended at 18,600 miles. I’ll likely have them checked at 10k miles or so.

Road Trip! Tail of the Dragon!

It is possible. I was fortunate the first pass to be behind one of our guys on a Road King that can flat ride. We did the first one in the wet so I was okay with the 35mph Average pace. The second time it was dry and I was all alone on my side of the road the entire time and was able to ride...

Road Trip! Tail of the Dragon!

It’s was a shot from 129 photos. They got about 10 pictures of me VS 1 from Killboy so I went with the 129 photos. I’m not sure if it matters much, likely the killboy photographer wasn’t on his/her a game that day.

Road Trip! Tail of the Dragon!

I broke in my KTM 790 ADV and Changed the oil at 545 miles. I left the next day for a Riding trip to the tail of the dragon, Cherohala Skyway, and the wheels through time museum with some Harley guys I ride with. Ended up riding 1200+ miles this long weekend. The dragon is a fun ride, but I...

Help me decide what oil to use in new KTM

I went with Amsoil 15w50 metric. These engine as you said sound like a bag of marbles idling. It may be placebo, but mine sounds quieter with the 15w50 metric than whatever the factory fill was. My brother even mentioned it sounded quieter. He has a Suzuki GSX-8S which has almost no noticeable...

    40 Weight oil temp ratings

I would say it’s based on expected shearing of the oil. The 10w40 although generally fairly shear stable is by default less shear stable than 15w40 or 20w40 of equal quality.

    powersports frankenbrew guru ???

Valvoline Motorcycle oil is very cheap at Walmart, or a gallon of 15w40 rotella or delvac. I wouldn’t run 10w30 in that beast. As other mentioned use that in your lawnmower

That compares nicely to the chart in my brothers Suzuki Manual. I ordered some Amsoil MFF 15w50 Metric oil. I’m going to give that that a try.

My only true reservation using the 20w50 V-Twin is cold flow performance on cold starts at 50F. Is this a legitimate concern? I live in the Midwest so I do some riding as cold as 50F. Otherwise it seems ideal. Good price, availability, good ZDDP, Boron, Moly and a stout HTHS.

I’ve been looking at the redline. I actually have some in my cart. Do you see any issues with the high ZDDP of Redline and the catalytic converter?

We already know the answer to that.. a very shear prone expensive oil.

If only M1 made a 10w50 MC oil with the add pack of 20w50 V-Twin! The other option that has gobs of all of this is Redline. I may do a couple VOAs of MC oils that aren’t already posted. I used to spend a decent amount of time here on BITOG 10 years ago. Took about a 7-8 year sabbatical when...

Help me decide what oil to use in new KTM

Excellent Info! I wouldn’t say I’m worried, but if I can get as many miles as possible out of it before it needs cams, that would be ideal. I know most of these fluids are super close In terms of performance and I just figured I’d get some research in before I hit 600 miles and do the first...

Help me decide what oil to use in new KTM

The redline 10w50 Powersports has a Viscosity at 100c of 19.1, but they don’t provide and HTHS. VI of 183. Looks almost identical in spec to the car version in 10w50 which they list as an HTHS of 5.0 so probably close to that range just guessing. The Amsoil 10w50 Dirt has an HTHS of 4.9, KV100...
