    Road Force Balancing - HELP

Luke, I don't think you are going to fix this without changing tires. The values are too big. The only thing you could do would be to swap the front tires with the rears - and (another guess), you have a staggered fitment and can't! AND I think you have another problem - alignment...

    PSI adjustment for larger tires

There is a school of thought that says you should match the original pressure to keep the same spring rate in the tire so the suspension reacts the same.

    Tire shopping - 2015 Camry

Ah ..... Mmmm..... That's not the way it works. Tire rolling resistance is NOT the result of friction with the road surface. Nor is it a function of tire hardness. A tire's rolling resistance is controlled by the amount of deflection (which is closely tied to inflation pressure/load), the...

    How OLD are you.

I'm so old I remember when McDonald's had a sign that said how many burgers they had sold - and I remember single digit millions!

Tire Profile of Michelin PSAS4 - Wide 295/21

The tread of a Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 Is asymmetrical, but non-directional. I go into detail about the difference between asymetrical and directional tires here: Barry's Tire Tech: Directional and Asymmetrical Tires:

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 out of round tire. Excessive road force. Defective manufacturing.

Actually, there are a number of things that I disagree with. For one, he used the wire brush on both the wheel and the tire and didn't blow them off afterwards. Second, he applied lube to the top rim flange BEFORE he took the tire off, wire brushed the wheel, then didn't reapply lube to the...

    Tire shopping - 2015 Camry

The way I see this is the more expensive the tire, the less likely there will be a problem. So I think the question becomes: How much risk are you willing to take compared to how much money you want to spend? But the starting point is deciding what performance parameters are important to you...

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 out of round tire. Excessive road force. Defective manufacturing.

There are a number of ways to unevenly mount a tire. It's important that enough mounting lube is used to make sure the tire evenly seats on the rim.

Tire pressure different on tire vs car

Ah ..... Mmmmmm ....... Not exactly. Normal pressure build up is 10%, so a 35 psi inflation only increases to 38.5 psi - normally. To increase 15 psi a tire would have to increase - hold on, I'm going to do the math - 160°F. That would result in severe damage to the tire.

Tire pressure different on tire vs car

There is. They are called load tables and you can find a set of them here: TirePressure.org Just match the loads and you can get the pressure. Word of warning: Ride and handling is controlled by more than just inflation pressure and varies widely between makes/models. However load carrying...

Tire pressure different on tire vs car

In the old days, it was common for car manufacturers to specify the pressure listed on the tire's sidewall. Grandpa is probably remembering those days. In the 1970's, government regulations stared requiring a sticker - commonly called the placard - with the tire size and specified pressure for...

    Two-year-old "New" Tires

Tire engineer here. A tire's condition is dependent on a lot of things - primarily heat. Tires operating in - say - Phoenix deteriorate much faster than tires operating in - say - Minneapolis. And it's not just heat, it's heat history. I go into much more detail here: Barry's Tire Tech...

Sidewall Compromised - Dare I run it

I didn't see any cords exposed. If there are, then the tire is toast. Otherwise, it is structurally sound.

    Michelin Defender LTX craking

Perhaps it is time for me to step in. The reason we are interested in cracking is that it is an indication of the state of the rubber inside the tire, where it really matters. The cracking itself isn't the problem. Michelin uses a harder tread compound and a harder lower sidewall compound and...

    Barry's Tire Tech: New/Revised articles

DriveHard, What I found really interesting was that they lifted this from my website! There's verbiage in there that is mine. I'm not upset they didn't give me credit, but they could have posted a link, so others could benefit from all the stuff I've published.

    Barry's Tire Tech: New/Revised articles

It was so long ago, but what I remember is someone telling me that they were doing it and the valve hole was located at the wheel's low spot. I've since been told that what I remember is incorrect - except, how would you make the valve hole the low spot if you didn't already know where the low...

    Flat spot? Or something else?

This totally sounds like a temperature induced flatspot. Long Version: Barry's Tire Tech: Flatspotting Short Version: The cause is the nylon in the tire. Check your sidewall. Nylon appears in all kinds of tires. The nylon flatspots because of the glass transition temperature of nylon is...
