lowering tire pressure to ~20 PSI for beach?

Every so often, my "tire-y sense" goes off (sort of like Spiderman's "spidey sense"!). And the quote below is one of those times. I looked it up, and a 1998 F-150 4X4 came with P265/70R17 OR LT245/75R16 LR D.

Right Way to Road Force Balance?

So you're saying the problem was the wheel wasn't centered on the axle.

Hard to tell but it looks like the Kumho is a Non-US tire, so no UTQG.

    LX-25 VS Scorpion AS3+

There is quite a bit of variability in the UTQG treadwear test - I've documented 16%, which can be 100 points on a long wearing tire - and tire manufacturers sometimes take advantage of that. Sometimes even retesting if they don't like the first result. And Yes! - sometimes the tire name is...

    LX-25 VS Scorpion AS3+

Allow me to confirm that OE tires generally don't wear as well as aftermarket tires. That's because the car makers specify tires with low rolling resistance so their fuel economy numbers are good. To do that, the tire makers sacrifice wear and or traction, especially wet traction. The car...

Right Way to Road Force Balance?

Be careful. I'm not sure every road force balancer comes with a printer. Ask!!

    Possible tire issue Continental LX25

The highway?? There's a stretch of highway in southeastern Ohio where the tires make so much noise you'd think something broke in the drivetrain. A few miles down the road everything is fine.

Right Way to Road Force Balance?

May be. Lots of weight indicates a problem of some sort, but it might not be something involved with RoadForce.

    Replace tires or rebalancing?

Maybe, maybe not. The first sign of an alignment problem is noise.

Right Way to Road Force Balance?

Just ask them for the road force values by wheel position. If they know what those are, they'll know the procedure. Record those for future reference. Post them here if you like.

    Replace tires or rebalancing?

Try swapping the tires front to rear. If the noise follows the tires or significantly changes, then you might have an alignment problem.

tire upgrade for 2025 Elantra Limited

As Rand said, you can't keep the speedometer accurate without changing wheel size. To find out what is possible, go to Tire Rack's website and look up their winter tire/wheel packages. That will tell you the wheel and tire sizes that will work.

Michelin Latitude Tour HP ZP wont balance?

Thanks for letting us know what happened. It's always good to add to the database of experiences. But there are still a few unresolved issues: 1) Why did the one tire shop keep getting different answers as to how much balance weight was needed? The only thing I can think of is the shop was...

    CrossClimate2 105 load rating (XL) vs 102

Most tire stiffness comes from the inflation pressure, so the effect a stiffer sidewall has is pretty small.

Reducing wheel size + switching to higher profile tires

Go to Tire Rack's website, input your vehicle, and select winter tire and wheel.packages. if they don't list the wheel size, you can't make that swap. I tried and it didn't work, but I didn't know what year. If it does, it will give you the correct tire size.

    Aged-out Tires From 2011

Just so everyone understands: Tire aging is very heat dependent and where you live greatly affects the result. That's why you will get different answers as to when to replace your tires. Also, some tire manufacturers use a crack resistant rubber in the sidewalls, so cracks = bad, but no...

Am I overthinking getting my new tires balanced properly?

There is much wrong with this post, so I'm going to parse it and address only those things that need addressing. Just for reference, I am a retired tire engineer who used to work in the warranty department for a major tire manufacturer. Tire manufacturers routinely accept warranty returns for...

Am I overthinking getting my new tires balanced properly?

There are 3 things that affect your ability to pickup up vibrations: 1) The sensitivity of the vehicle. Some vehicles are very sensitive and some are very insensitive, and I don't know of anyone who has catalogued such a thing. 2) The roughness of the roads the vehicle will be operating on...

Am I overthinking getting my new tires balanced properly?

To the OP: My advice would be to leave well enough alone and just let the tire busters do their job. In all likelihood, there aren't going to be any problems - and if there are problems, it'll be with Tire Rack, not Discount Tire. So for everyone else, allow me to explain what is going on...

    Rant: EV Tires

Rant: This isn't about EV tires, but about how Hankook is characterizing EV tires as something extra special. Ya' see, the YouTube algorithm decided I wanted to see videos about EV tires, so it recommended a bunch. It is clear Hankook gave some incentive to these YouTube content creators...
