    Dealership negotiations...

AutoFair Honda in Manchester gave me a low finance rate on a company car. When I went in, they told me my credit rating wasn’t high enough for the promo rate and wanted to charge 1% more. We bought a number of Hondas so it cost them four sales.

The used car market is tough. I need to change my approach.

You have a web page and FaceBook profile? Your name is common on FaceBook, don’t find a MarkeyPlace profile. FWIW recently listed my 2006 Sprinter on FB and CL. Got 27 total inquiries on FaceBook and multiple offers and visits. Sold in two days. Craigslist, only got three inquiries, all three...

    Dealership negotiations...

End of quarter also. Ford and GM now report sales quarterly, not monthly, so there might be some leverage. The big GM truck recall can’t be helping sales. But those emails ar pe a come-on to get you in the dealership. Many years ago, walked into a Subaru dealership end of quarter, got a...

    Debit Card hacked

Had a problem with some false pending credit card charges. When called, they told me it was probably a card skimmer and that the gas station I’d used had frequent skimmer attacks, which they’d noticed over the last few months. The stolen card # would be used for a small transaction to test if...

Are these spare tires actually better than the rest?

Outbacks come with a donut. But the Subaru spec for rolling diameter is really tight so you have to use it on the rear, short time only. Thankfully, the bay will fit a full size spare though you lose a lot of storage space.

    Most reliable used simple/basic vehicle

Manuals are a small percentage of available cars. If not for that a Gen II Prius is tough to beat. Battery change is easy enough.

Nokian One HT vs Michelin Defender LTX M/S2

Had a small business fleet of eight vehicles so we bought a lot of tires. We always put Michelins on our personal cars (going back to 1975) but we had such a great experience with Nokian winter tires (which we tested head-to-head with them-current Blizzak and X-Ice) that we decided to give...

    Dashcam...Solve or create problems?

You can select what shows in most software. My car got hit from behind and driven into the car in front of us (we have front and rear dash cams). The insurance company determined fault minutes after we sent the video. We have them in all our cars.

Continental pure contact, 1 yr in.

Outbacks used to come with Bridgestone Turenzas. Drove my 2006 Outback straight from the dealer to the tire dealer. How bad was their reputation? The set of four sold as new takeoffs for $100.

Costco: stores open for exec. tier 1 hr early, starting Jun 30

And family memberships. We get a rebate of anywhere from $75 to $450. But they are losing a lot of business from me to BJ’s (locations in 25 states), as they open at 8am and stay open until 10pm. Gas prices are close or the same. And I can buy decade-size catchup rather than lifetime size.

German lug bolts are better than ROW lug nuts, true?

For extra fun, if you have alloy wheels for three seasons and steel wheels for winter tires, you need two sets of bolts, of different lengths.

Oiling up the ole chain before major rain

To continue about chain lube, discovered long ago that more frequent lubrication results in lower chain wear than more-thorough but less-frequent application, regardless of lubricant used. Most of my street bikes go around 200 miles on a tank, so every other tank works out to every 4-500 miles...
