What is the “WC Method” for fuel dilution measurement? Is it GC? Different standard? How equiv to the Oil Analysers method? ( hopefully not similar to the BS method)

Well, judging from the new picture, you had duct tape for this trip. I suppose the chewing gum and baling wire could easily have been in back, or on top, wherever you used to keep the Lucas Oil Stabilizer. 🤣😂 (I’m quite sure if you saw my van, you’d have the last laugh). ✌️

Dammit JW, for resurrecting this thread. But I couldn’t resist posting this picture (link) with this caption: this must have been a teaser/trailer for a Griswold Family Vacation movie. Taking the family cross country in a $200 minivan, with $200 worth of Lucas oil stabilizer in the “trunk”with...

post your latest differential fluid change

2015 Ford Transit EcoBoost: 83100 mi Out: factory fill (Motorcraft 75w85): kind of dark, but not too opaque; Some diff gear faces looked “polished.” In: HPL Differential Life 75w90 Seems quieter now. (My imagination???) 2013 Subaru 3.6r auto: 83890 mi: front & rear Out: unknown, but probably...

    M1 FS Euro 0w-40, Val PB "Restore" 10w-30, 5.1K OCI, 07 GMC 6.2L

@jetman, I enjoy reading about anyone using the VPBR. I ran it straight for several summers in my Ford Ecoboost 3.5 camper van, when I wanted a “longish” OCI, so I wouldn’t have to change it out on the road. Longish was 7k-10k, not that extreme; 4k-5k of each was highway. Curious, if you ever...

    HPL Black Friday 2024

I was trying to see what I could cobble together for an order, but the advlubrication site went down for “updating.” Does anyone remember the “list price” for a 6-qt pack of the Differential Life, or the 4-gal box? I can do the discount calculations from there. I barely caught the PCMO price...

    Mega 75w-90 testing thread!

Right, but they have the PAO (CC version), and the more G3 non-CC version. That table he provided matches what I saw for the CC version (however I came up with it: a post by @Spedestrian ?). Spedestrian also showed a table for the non-CC, but it had no Brookfield or KRL info…so I thought maybe...

    Mega 75w-90 testing thread!

Are these the Cold Climate versions? I was also curious about the non-cold Diff Life Brookfield result in the 75w90…and if there is a 75w110 in the non-cold version, what it’s Brookfield result is.

Are thicker gear oils better for differentials?

Let me do some damage control here, I am NOT trying to diss the Severe Gear product; like I said, I hope to purchase some soon. I am guilty of trying to absorb / react to several threads, and may have reacted in the wrong place in the wrong way…maybe. 1) I believe @MolaKule is saying the new...

Are thicker gear oils better for differentials?

Here is the older (Antigua) SevereGear 75w-90 vs the newer (Nuevo) 75w-90 that the video was blasting. I understand the VOA’s don’t necessarily reflect effectiveness, as new non-tested components might make up for the lower phosphorous and Boron. I does make sense for Amsoil to target a lower...

Are thicker gear oils better for differentials?

First off, in my opinion, the SG 75w90 performed in the top two in SubieRubyRoo’s shootout, and I intend to buy some. ( Was just now checking out how to buy thru you). It was the video Buster linked to that said the new formula was not as stout as the older formula (I used the word “hollowed...

    Mega 75w-90 testing thread!

@SubieRubyRoo, if you ever get bored and want to do another one of these comparisons again, maybe do one comparing one brand, different grades: like Amsoil SevereGear 75w85, vs their 75w90 vs their 75w110, vs their 75-140. Or do all HPL. We can use their PDS’s to get viscosity differences...

Are thicker gear oils better for differentials?

Well, some here like to give auto engineers wide deference, so here’s the conundrum Ford is presenting me with: Once upon a time Ford spec’d 75w-140 (or 85w-140) in even their lighter-duty F150’s. At some point, maybe 10 yrs ago, they switched to 75w-85, even in “lighter-duty” 250’s, such as...

Are thicker gear oils better for differentials?

I’ll ask this again, since it pertains to the OP’s question. What temps are considered normal in a standard rear diff? I know towing up a mountain pass in summer will be hotter than short tripping in dead of winter in flatlands, but what are some typical values, for say, 10 miles at 70 mph not...

Gear Oil at 20,000 miles in Ford 9.75” Diff

Hmmm, Amsoil Severe Gear came out at / near top of the heap in the testing @SubieRubyRoo commissioned. What’s your concern with it, other than price…which isn’t that bad compared to OEM fluids.

    Amsoil Euro 0W-30 10K mi, 2017 CRV 1.5T - FUEL!

It would be interesting if Pablo ran a lower-end Amsoil (OE or XL) for shorter interval to see results. Maybe the long-drain approach just plain doesn’t work with GTDI. Of course won’t fix door locks etc.

Gear Oil at 20,000 miles in Ford 9.75” Diff

Well, @SubieRubyRoo, reading your attachment, looks like the Ford 75w-85 is “Premium Synthetic,” no mention of the word “blend.” This is one reason I’ve been reluctant to use a heavier gear oil; I mean, maybe the Ford fluid is truly special. Though, I guess there are other 75w-85’s out...

Gear Oil at 20,000 miles in Ford 9.75” Diff

I have a 2015 Ford Transit 250 hi-top (tallest) with 9.75 rear. Factory fill is 75w85. I have no doubt older Fords had 75w140, but I’m surprised by Subie’s claim 2019 specs 75w90. I was going to get SG 75w90, but Pablo posted a 75w110 suggestion…which I didn’t see for awhile since I’m laid up...
