    Series 60 engine concerns.

Here is the latest sample. No I have not done the GC test and I did confirm that Blackstone does not. I sent an inquiry to the lab suggested and have not received my sample containers in the mail yet. I'm wondering if an additive is gonna need to be a must to thicken that oil up some. Thoughts?

I didn't get the GC test done, however we did test the fuel system in the head, ended up pop testing the injectors and found 2 bad ones.

Is HPL a brand or a type of 15w40? What about a synthetic? Would that change anything? I've never had this issue so I'm really stumped as to why it's happening.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I have to call the lab tomorrow about the additional GC test. Could the residual Phillips oil dilute the Chevron that much?

Here is my latest with Chevron. It's better, the viscosity is better, but it still seems low. Am I thinking to much into this viscosity level stuff? I'll have to look, I'm sure there is a virgin Chevron 15w40 oil analysis on here..

No, the oil level isn't rising, there is nothing to indicate any type of fuel dilution. Evey sample I've taken has had >.5 dilution. What is GC? Is that the other test that Phillips is talking about?

I spoke to Phillips this past week as well as my local provider. Seems that no one knows why the oil is breaking down. They're saying it's fuel dilution and that Blackstone needs to do some other type of fuel dilution test, anyone heard of that? Also, all the virgin samples came back with good...

    20w50 for high horsepower application

I'd say no and I concur with everything stated above that 20w50 is to thick if your in the states. I've discovered that in my research there isn't a lot of 20w50 heavy duty available in the northern states, but the closer you get to the equator the more popular it gets for obvious reasons.

    20w50 for high horsepower application

But a 15w50 diesel rated oil would be sufficient if one wanted to use that?

    20w50 for high horsepower application

I don't run a bypass system and I'm eventually going to back to my 20k intervals once I get these viscosity issues ironed out with switching back to Chevron.

    20w50 for high horsepower application

The 2 strokes are supposed to get a 400 weight oil, not a multi grade. Our experience in 2 cycles with multi grade it increased oil usage. But that's not the question at hand. Yes some,.not all 60's have big bearings. I don't have an issue with 15w40 but if a better oil grade is available for...

    20w50 for high horsepower application

Don't know anything about land cruisers sorry. They are ugly though I'm my opinion lol. But even a 5w-40 maybe to thin. Guess I'll be staying with 15w40

Oh a series 60 Detroit? We have cavitation issues with 10w30 viscosity.

    20w50 for high horsepower application

My buddy in Australia mentioned when they turn up their series 60 engines they run a 20w50 oil. But they don't see the temperatures in the Winters like we do. I'm not familiar enough to make this decision, but in cold temps, -10 on up would 20w50 be to thick for my engine in the states?

So here is the latest sample and a virgin sample.. Now the virgin sample I'm not sold by. I didn't witness the sample being taken from the tanker, I only aided in removing it from their sample container. I want to know what was in my buckets I returned and they're claiming they sent their own...

Spoke to Hailey @ Phillips 66 also. She's confirming what everyone else is saying. The oils testing like 10w30. Samples leave tomorrow overnight. I'll post results when I get them.

Phillips 66 Guardol fleet EC 15w40 formerly fleet supreme ec.

Most owners you can't tell them different. Unless it's extreme usage. You should do UOA's and then see what you get. At 10K most guys are throwing new oil away.
