Current user of T6, but what do you experts think of this Fram 15w-40 made by Amalie

I believe it was said earlier in this thread that spectrographic analysis does not show the compounds that are identified as friction modifiers. To me, It's Magic pixie dust until somebody calls out what it is and why it is in such a great concentration to cause an issue.

Current user of T6, but what do you experts think of this Fram 15w-40 made by Amalie

Thanks for that. For what it's worth, the link gave a page 404 error. I haven't done an exhaustive search on the forum, however I don't recall them named, and there are folks in the industry that show up around here. Again, I haven't done an exhaustive search but it's never mentioned what those...

Current user of T6, but what do you experts think of this Fram 15w-40 made by Amalie

Absolutely agree. My saying I've posted a number of times is no one has shown the "magic pixie dust that is a friction modifier". I did a deferred maintenance refresh on a Gen 1 Yamaha VMAX last fall. The owner had used nothing but yellow bottle Pennzoil 10w40 conventional oil and there was...

    Oil for 40-year-old UJM?

I'm going to take a stab at the recommended OCI on the stock KZ 1000 40-Year-Old ujm. It probably was 2,500 to 3,000 mi. An air-cooled engine is a different beast than liquid cooled. Much looser tolerances between everything in the top end with respect to cylinders, pistons, rings. Oil...

Had Difficulty Picking Up My Dropped CBR300

Lol, how could you drop or tip over a Spyder??? Probably don't deserve to pick it up if somehow that got upside down, haha.

Valvoline Restore & Protect 5w-30 - Virgin UOA

Looks like two different analysis companies. If they were from the same company I be interested. There's no reason for them to run that much difference between those two oils in my opinion. Is it the base oil that is the main difference? The stuff has been shown to clean, people are pulling...

    2023 FLTRK; Amsoil MCV 20W-50 9.4k mi

Amsoil metric 20W50 is in my ZRX 1200 currently. Another 1200-ish miles and I will post a 5000 mile analysis. I don't expect it to be majorly different than any other oil, but interested to see nonetheless.

    Oil for 40-year-old UJM?

Can you share where you found Kawasaki recommends those specific numbers? Synthetic or conventional? If it's recommended, is it a negative if someone chooses more of those additives? I absolutely disagree that higher concentration doesn't provide more protection. If there are only a thousand...

    ZRX1200 Redline 20w-50, 5k mi

That's what I understand as well, but didn't want to leave out the possibility.

    ZRX1200 Redline 20w-50, 5k mi

No, not helically cut. There is a needle bearing in the clutch assembly along with a thrust washer. Even though they are two separate parts, I would gather that's what you were talking about as the thrust bearing? Bike has 85,000 miles on the engine and original clutch. Now 3500 miles into an...

    Amsoil metric oil

Not putting this out in the wrong spirit, however, someone within the industry, either current or retired, or anywhere in between would be able to identify what is a friction modifier with respect to an analysis at any level. That's all I'm wanting to get across. Friction modifier's by the way...

    Amsoil metric oil

Thanks Zee. Not making light of it, but maybe there is some magic pixie dust in oil formulations that no one can identify causing those anomalies.

    Amsoil metric oil

Test the stuff. As in put it in a bike to see if the clutch slips or not? One thing I agree with BLS if clutches slip its not the oil. I would like to hear from folks that have had JASO oil slip a clutch on a newer bike, not a higher mileage or older bike that has sat around for years like a...

    Amsoil metric oil

I've said it before, and it's tongue and cheek sounding, but it's a legit question. What is the magic pixie dust that makes up friction modifiers that no one has been able to identify or name?

    Motul 3000 4T

Good info, thanks for the post. Goldwing is one the easier bikes on oil, with that, you make a good illustration. I still see zinc as being more useful in a higher concentration up to a point that it could start to cause other problems. However, I don't pay as much attention to zinc as much...

    Motul 3000 4T

Question for the collective: With TBN does zinc play into that number in terms of what is remaining as active ingredient? With that, Jimiii can you share how low zinc oils would give the same protection as a high zinc oil, given the damage low zinc is known to cause in many cases within a short...

You checked on here with a search yet? Don't believe Motul publishes their zinc and phos, for instance, like Mobil does.

2024 Kawasaki 1000SX - What oil and filter?

The question was how long he goes on an OCI, he already said he's used it for 17 years. Lol, surely hasn't gone that long on the OCI...

2024 Kawasaki 1000SX - What oil and filter?

How long do you go on the oil change interval? Do you change at a mileage interval, or if shifting feel drops off, that kind of thing?
