Tree limb landed on my electrical service..

With how insurance is today, there's no way I'm filing a claim unless I absolutely must. As I've mentioned in previous posts, my homeowners just went from $1100 to $1350 in one shot. I've never filed a home claim in ~27yrs of homeownership. I pay just shy of $1000/mo (yes.. per month) to...

Tree limb landed on my electrical service..

You could DIY, but permits have to be pulled and the UG service plan and excavation has to be pre-approved by the power co, etc. I talked to a few guys that do this kind of thing "on the side". Permits. scheduling and digging would be up to me, then most of them don't want to mess with the...

Tree limb landed on my electrical service..

I came home from work to this about a week ago. The wind and rain that day took down a dead branch that wasn't on my radar. What a mess. The power line running to my house is sagged about 7ft off the ground now. The force of the branch hitting the wires bent my mast/weather head over...

Question for Canadian while I’m visiting Canada

You're visiting another country and your goal is to bring back an oil filter? This is the most BITOG thing I've heard in awhile.

    Auto ins just doubled!

In conjunction with my auto policy nightmare, my homeowner's policy went from $1100 to $1350 with this year's renewal. I know this is peanuts for much of the country, but I've never filed a claim in nearly 30yrs of homeownership.

"Book time" on two Honda brake repair items?

Given ~$300 per corner is standard these days for new pads and rotors done by a shop (parts and labor), this sounds fair.

    2021 Chrysler 300s

It really has. Every vehicle is designed a little differently in those 4 spots. My Equinox and Traverse have plastic cladding around those areas, leaving a small area notched out of the plastic. I bought both of them 3yrs old with ~30K miles on them and you can see where the dealers and...

    2021 Chrysler 300s

With a floor jack and appropriate pad/adapter, I shoot for the flat, reinforced area to the inside of the pinch weld. If you lift from the pinched part, it either folds over and/or destroys the paint on it.

Basement issues - water through block wall

For minor weather related seepage or moisture wicking through concrete block walls, I've had excellent results with a product called Thoroseal. It was a bagged, sandy/powder product that you mixed an activator liquid with IIRC. Quite messy and not fun to apply, but it gets the job done...

    Nissan 3.5 liter oil

That is interesting as my 2016 Nissan Quest minivan with the VQ35DE recommended 0w20 by Nissan, as did my 2019 Pathfinder with the VQ35DD GDI version just like your 2023 has. I ran anything from 0w20 to 5w30 in them with no noticeable differences in fuel economy, NVH, etc. If you poke around...

    Whats so great about Jeeps?

Was there ever a time a Wrangler didn't hold it's resale value well? They've always had their niche in the market. They are a lot different from their YJ days, but still a fun, cool looking vehicle IMO. There's times I miss my 1997 TJ, hard top, 4cyl, 5MT, but then reality kicks in and I...

    Paint N Ship

Assuming your 2017 Accord isn't a show car, I'd say give one a try. I considered going this route for my 2016 Malibu, but the problem is, there are so many other little bits and pieces I need for the complete bumper cover, the cost just kept going up. She's zip tied together and majorly...

    Blown engines on riding mowers.,,

You have to be pretty clueless to totally destroy a riding mower engine. I know years ago the first generation of Kohler Courage large single cyl engines had a problem with crankcase cover bolts loosening up, causing the crankshaft to wobble and destroy the engine. That's about it. None...

    2010 Nissan Cube CVT maintenance

That's interesting. I've owned and serviced a bunch of different Nissan/Jatco CVTs and I've never seen one w/out a set of fluid supply/return lines for a cooler in the radiator or an external cooler.

    2010 Nissan Cube CVT maintenance

I'm probably misunderstanding, but you're saying there are no transmission fluid lines running to a cooler in the radiator? The heat exchanger on the transmission itself I thought was a fluid heater for these little jatcos. If you remove that heat exchanger, there should be a filter under it...

Exmark Zero Turn transmission oil type

There's all kinds of service info on the youtoobs for the ZT2800 and plenty of service kits available by mail order. I might be a bit weary of Amazon filters. I'd rather order from Jacks Small Engines or other reputable sources. Like said above, Stens makes a good replacement filter for...

    Ignoring CEL

I can see ignoring the CEL, but what I can't understand is ignoring it, while not knowing what the code(s) is. There's no excuse for that when you can get your own code reader for as little as $20.

    oil filter tightness question

I guess I've been lucky. I've been doing my own oil/filter changes since the 1980s and I've never had a hand tightened oil filter leak. I definitely don't have brute force behind my bones. Sometimes over the course of the OCI, they snug up such that I need a cap wrench, etc to remove them...

How strict are warranties when it comes to maintenance schedules?

Assuming you're covered for some amount of time and miles yet with your aftermarket warranty, I would go by what the owner's manual states for service and have a paper trail to support it.

My new rear wheels and tires 0/32 left on old tires!

Nice! The treads are almost completely gone on the drive wheels of my 21" Snapper, but so is the deck unfortunately. It's only 12yrs old too.
