Can't believe some people would pick a used Mitsubishi Mirage or similar econobox in sub-$5k budget, when this amazing daily driver costs the same or less, but is actually a pleasure to drive. But to be fair - 10 years ago I'd call a Civic on eBay coilovers a decent daily. While now only a...

2009 Pontiac Vibe GT 2.4l... Mysterious, Intermittent noise.

To me definitely sounds like an exhaust leak or loose/cracked heat shield, based on owning multiple vehicles with that 2.4L. I love the 2AZ-FE.

Looking to buy a hatchback in the $5K to $10K price range

H/K 2.4L were always a hit or miss. Those were in Sonata/Optima, Sportage/Tucson, and Santa Fe, and later model Sorento. All the models I recommended earlier though came with either a 1.6L or 2.0L, and in pre-2011 era are quite reliable. KIA Spectra5 is my favorite, severely underrated vehicle.

Valvoline R&P Oil Burner Test Results

My experience: Purchased a known oil burner - 2008 Scion xB. Discovered that oil consumption is at 1qt/3k miles. Started using VRP 5W-30, and oil consumption is gone in two short (3k) oil changes. Will stick with it for now. But no oil consumption in a 2AZ engine at 228k miles is definitely a...

Looking to buy a hatchback in the $5K to $10K price range

Pre-2011 Hyundai Accent/Elantra, or KIA RIO/Spectra WILL go the distance. In these the automatic transmissions are just as reliable as manuals, engines last forever with normal oil changes and a timing belt every 100k miles, and each was offered in either sedan or hatchback. All Hyundai/KIA...

Looking to buy a hatchback in the $5K to $10K price range

In Scions the headliners are always white/light gray. Interiors offer some accents depending on model year or special editions (which there were plenty). Basic interior is like this: While special editions had different colors (gold, blue, red, etc) based on model years: Seat patterns also...

Looking to buy a hatchback in the $5K to $10K price range

THIS. (Spoiler alert: black interior. But not leather 😁) I currently daily a 2008 Scion xB. 228k miles. Valvoline R&P 5W-30 completely fixed the oil consumption in just two oil changes, which used to be 1qt/3k miles. It easily stays at 28-29MPG average on my commute. Great passing power, I use...

Honda Element. Scion xB. Toyota FJ Cruiser. These three vehicles are my absolute favorite, from that era of automobiles.

2011 Kia Soul bites the dust..

Gates belt quality went downhill. I'm surprised yours lasted as long as it did. I owned multiple Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Hyundai engines with timing belts. And on forums for those vehicles almost every "broken timing belt" was made by Gates. Especially the blue Gates belts.

    Penzoil Platinum Euro L 5W30 5QT - $26.44 at Walmart

It's probably $49.99 at AutoZone/AAP/O'Reilly's. And sadly I've seen many people come in a and elect to purchase it at full price, because they "don't need an oil filter". Yet by adding the oil filter their price would've been $39.99 total. People are terrible at math these days. And terrible at...

    Valvoline “hybrid” ATF sighted.

What's the consensus on this fluid? I plan to use it in 2012 Prius C. It does say on bottle that it is recommended in CVT applications where Toyota WS is spec'd. And it mentions Prius specifically.

used car choice ... older low mileage vs newer high mileage

Once I fix everything that's wrong/broken - I get bored. And then repeat the cycle, while someone else gives me enough profit to let them enjoy the fruits of my labor.
