L84 5.3 DFM GM Oil Choices

ESP 0w-30 is very affordable for what it is. Should provide excellent engine cleanliness and resistance to viscosity break down.

    2025 Forester Front Differential Fluid

I’d just run Amsoil Severe gear or Valvoline 75w-90. I have 20k miles so far on severe gear on my 21 Outback no issues.

Amsoil 100:1 Marine 2 Stroke Oil

Thanks for the feedback! My 17 footer is completely stock. Mostly used to fish near the bay and cruises nicely around 3500-4000k rpms. Only mod I’ve done is used Chris Carson Marine reeds. They really helped with idling and slight improvement on fuel economy.

Amsoil 100:1 Marine 2 Stroke Oil

I was mostly interested in simplifying things at the gas pump. My average top off per trip is 23-25 gallons which roughly equates to 1 quart of Amsoil 100:1. Buying a case brings the cost down to around $14 100:1 vs XLF 50:1 on my average fuel runs. It’s within the price range I’d be willing to...

Amsoil 100:1 Marine 2 Stroke Oil

I called amsoil tech line and asked about this oil. I specifically asked about wear protection and warm weather. The technician was very assertive 100:1 will be sufficient in my application. He noted mixing is richer wouldn’t hurt but it’s not needed. I will be trying this oil 100:1 in the near...

Amsoil 100:1 Marine 2 Stroke Oil

Thanks for the technical information. I’d agree a racing application needs extra lubrication however would the same wear correlate on a recreational outboard seeing 3-5k rpm’s on an average?

L84 5.3 DFM GM Oil Choices

It’s roughy the same as before. These engines have a variable displacement oil pump. 30-40 psi idling and 55-65 psi cruising on the highway.

Amsoil 100:1 Marine 2 Stroke Oil

I can’t find any newer threads about this. Does anyone here run Amsoils Saber Marine 2 stroke oil on their outboards at the recommended 100:1 ratio? Their data sheet suggest 100:1 regardless of OEM mixture and the PDS shows the viscosity much thicker than other makes. I’d like to premix this for...

Changed the oil in my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L V8. Engine is real quiet now. All the typical GM V8 valvetrain chatter gone now. Plan on running this oil 10k then sampling. 2.8k Miles Out: Castrol EDGE EP 0W-20/ In: Amsoil SS 0W-40. FRAM Endurance FE10575 old/ new

L84 5.3 DFM GM Oil Choices

UPDATE I went ahead and changed my oil today. From Castrol Edge EP 0w-20 with 2.8k miles to Amosil SS 0W-40. All I can say WOW! You can barely even hear the engine running unless you open the hood or stick your head in the wheel well. I know a lot of people say it's a phycological illusion...

water in AVgas compared to regular gasoline?

That’s correct. Your typical av gas is 100LL octane Low Lead.

water in AVgas compared to regular gasoline?

From my experience maintaining wide body aircraft it’s quite normal to sump a couple gallons of water per wing. It’s performed on a schedule basis not preflight. Some of these aircraft can hold close to 200k lbs of fuel. So a couple gallons of water per wing ain’t a whole lot considering how...

water in AVgas compared to regular gasoline?

Basically all jet fuel is pretty much refined kerosene. Big jets are also fuel sampled to check the levels of bio organisms.

water in AVgas compared to regular gasoline?

Most aircraft accumulate condensation in the fuel tanks. From little GA planes checked every preflight to a big airline jets being drained on scheduled checks. Not only is a safety deal because nobody wants water in the fuel it’s also prevents bio organisms from growing in the tanks.

L84 5.3 DFM GM Oil Choices

Well I changed my mind and ended up buying some Amsoil 0w40. It’s Dexos R rated so it should be more the enough for a simple L84 engine.
